There is an LS1, LS6, LR4, LM7 LQ4 and LQ9, and all are varying sizes, with the LQ9 being the most desireable for buildup purposes. There is a lot more information out there describing each, but I don't have the time to look it up (sorry )

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
I got me a harness today and a computer from a 98 camaro for $100. I have to go get the motor and get it tore apart so I can take it and get it bored. I also picked up some ls6 injectors for $65 shipped. I need to find a ls6 intake and get me a cam.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
for the sake of archiving this stuff, i compiled a list of all of the most recent GenIII buildups I have seen. a lot of people incorrectly refer to it as "LS1 swap", so i'm going to stick to "GenIII" where truck engines are used.
i know i'm going to miss one or two (like the member with the yellow 4x4 truck that i can't think of right now - Bob is his name, i think?), but ... we'll get there, i'll edit it later to add threads. The guy who gave me the idea - FirstGen - and his GenIII/T56 swap: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=111137 '68 short step' GenIII buildup thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=195643 '68fleetsidec20' budget buildup thread using stock gas tank, one thread here, one at ls1tech: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=239446 http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=707811 69Custom's buildup thread SSR GenIII/4l60e: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=117144 'Hart_Rod' and his 5.3/4l60E buildup: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=200387 'killer71' and his Trailblazer SS engine swap: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=244448 'oscareltemblo' and his GenIII swap: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=196844 'RedAddiction' and his GenIII swap: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=238577 'SavageSpeed' and his tubbed/tricked out LS1/Turbo 400 (carbed?) swap: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=242683 'ST Mike' and his GenIII swap into '67 C10: http://blogs.sporttruck.com/6205862/...ive/index.html 'Wasted Income' and his GenIII buildup: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=2217111 'billyjo' and his GenIII swap: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=412057 'Rogue Willie' swapping an LS1/4l60e into his '69 C10: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=245878 '68GenIII' and his swap (his nickname gives it away): http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=217668 A short thread on header choices for GenIII swaps: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=197347 An article from Petersen's 4-Wheel & Offroad magazin covering the swap, generically, and showing their installation method: http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/brandpa...ap/photos.html Finally, Sandemonium's thread about aftermarket A/C kits that i found informative: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=243789 A link back to this thread for prosperity and rememberance (in case this gets copied and pasted elsewhere): http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=233302 I also know a couple other 67-72chevytrucks.com members not represented here with swap threads who have the swap in progress right now: -> lazybra1n -> hyde -> gringoloco -> Sandemonium Not sure if this will ultimately help anyone, and I haven't yet raided the LS1tech forums for others out there who've done the swap and have buildup threads, so ... if anyone has something to contribute, please shoot me a PM. I prefer to stick with forum buildup threads rather than personal webpages or photo galleries, because half of the links I have in my original build thread from the past 18 months have been taken offline! The only ones still alive are those at this forum and LS1tech. If you are doing a buildup thread, for the sake of future reference, PLEASE do not hotlink your images to a personal webpage, upload them to this forum so they stay around - forever - and we never lose em. thanks!

What parts are you changing? Are you going with a larger bore also?

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
Just added board member '68GenIII' and his swap thread, along with a link to discussion on headers, and a link to an article in a popular 4x4/offroad magazine's swap.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
Nope, got a close friend of mine in town from NY, so I'll be tied up with her and my fiance for the weekend. Besides that, I've got a partially shattered toe with a full cast on my leg that won't let my ankle bend, so ... it's incredibly hard to walk. More info and pics here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=243166
Only extra work I'll be doing this weekend is trying to pull a couple of random sprigs of crab grass in the yard and swapping out a simple part in my VW.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
A little heads up on guys wanting or doing the conversion. I finished up making my harness stand alone today. If you have the pinouts it is really not a lot of trouble converting a harness. Here is a link with the pinouts http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312119
This one is for a 98 and those are the wires you take out and use to power the harness, etc http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312119 Last edited by jkade; 08-18-2007 at 10:40 PM. |

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
Are the 6L motors from trucks the same as the 6L corvette or gto motor except the intake? I would imagine that the 6L truck motor is cheaper than buying the "corvette" name. Thanks Josh

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
Yep. Same thing, for the most part. Iron block as opposed to aluminum and ~1/2 point lower compression.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
Some more info.... I bought a set of fans and a radiator out of a 98 camaro and it is the same height or close enough to the stock radiator. You can save some money this way, both with all the hoses on the radiator and the fans shipped for $100 bucks.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
I found this truck in Arkansas a few years ago. I did not buy it, but I should have. The motor and tranny are from Street and Performance and were installed in Mena, Arkansas. The truck was a strong runner and you could not glue it to the ground, even if you wanted to. Cruise along at 30 MPH and step on it and the rear tires would just light up like a roman candle.

It was priced at $10K (which is what I could have purchased it for--the wife out gunned me that day) and about a year later someone unknowingly offered the guy around $16 and won the truck. The motor and the tranny would cost a person right at $9K if you bought it all new at S&P. The guy that owned it, did polishing work at the S&P shop to pay off the goodies and the motor. I would not call all of the S&P stuff crap, but if you want just a running drivetrain, then they can sell expensive stuff, however, I personally like some of their "BLING". If I am oging to build a runner--it will shine, too. When I drove it, it had minimal brakes but the Kick A$$ part was well oiled and working fine. I calculated what I could do the same type of install for, by using a good used motor and tranny, I feel that I will get mine together for about half of the price for the install. I am looking at using a long tube header set, instead of the shorties that S&P sells. By the way the headers on that truck are the Prototypes for their shorty series that they now sell (the first set built for this style of trucks). The tranny in that truck is a new 4L60E with the adaptor to give it a manual speedo capability, along with the computer input connection. Last edited by piecesparts; 08-31-2007 at 04:42 PM. |

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
The Vette' and GTO 6.0l is an LS2. More differences than the block and compression, but still fairly interchangable. A few engine covers and sensor locations being the biggest differences.
