Not sure what you guys think --- I dont think I am too far back although I am about as far back as I can go I think due to harness as well as bracketry/fuel line for fuel railes on the driver side near tunnel.
I dont * think * I will need to modify tunnel ...... but hard to tell as everything is tight. Finally - does it need to come forward due to the motor mounts - or is there an offset plate that is big enough to handle this ? thx

Transmission Removal
1) Remove Starter to gain access to inspection plastic plate (remove) 2) rotate flywheel with screwdriver to get to the 3x 15mm bolts - I used a 15mm 12 point socket and breaker bar to loosen and remove with socket wrench 3) Remove I think 8 bolts on bellhousing. 2 have accessorie 13mm nuts on top then all 15mm bolting into the block. 4) Walk off dowels and onto jack/dolly.

Walked transmission around to rear of house.
plan is to disassemble for 4wd=>2wd conversion. If all looks good (think it will be) -- just replace a few items (3/4 clutches) and sunshell and swpa the output and redo all asssembly and seals. Next update should be teardown maybe this weekend.

I would not move the motor forward. There is not a lot of front clearance for radiator / fan. I moved mine further back. I didn't have to modify the tunnel.
As far as motor mounts, there's always custom built to put it exactly where you need it. I hear a lot of guys use dirty dingo mounts. Since I'm using a different frame/clip I can't help you there. |

Yeah going to try and put as far back as I can ...... but really starting to hit/interfere with the fuel rail. May need to weld a custom mount off back of the The part I dont get with the dingo sliders is they say its more for moving the engine forward. But this is in reference to stock SBC ....... so not sure how that plays here. eg https://www.dirtydingo.com/shop/prod...oducts_id=1372 Thats the triangle pattern for a SBC mount. havent checked but guessing that varies from the mounts from the LQ4 which I think are sort of square.

I just looked at your picture again. In reference to the right coil mount stud, clearance to the firewall is about the same on mine.

Patch job on step welded, metal prep treated, cleaned and fibreglassed Starting transmission teardown tomorrow - puled the torx plus 50 screws today in case they were tough (heard they are a bear - went fine). Ill start a seperate tranny thread - but post highlights in here.

Didn't get much done on transmission today - pulled my back lifting concrete blocks for a deck off truck yesterday.
Basically took the servo off the side of transmission using a screwdriver/hammer/pick as per most videos. Then removed transmission pan bolts and had a sneak peak inside. CLEAN. Actually cleaner (lighter) in real life. Minimal friction. No metal. Ill start a trans 4wd=>2wd thread in a different section this weak as I tear it down. And link tot this thread.

Bad side is - my fibreglass patch didnt set up right.
Dont think I got my mixture ratios correct - its tacky and not hard. Not sure if can be fixed. Or start over

why not just get a 2wd trans and sell the 4wd trans? seems like a lot of work to convert, unless you are a trans guy and love doing that.

BUt I will be doing a few more test refits once trans is done to mainly look at exhaust manifold clearnace (tight might need a corvett manifold) and motor mount support.

Almost done with the main work on harness. Wife depinned most of it whilst I was at work and then we finished off. Ordered a fuse block harness from VP auto for $125. That should be enought finish off wtih some loom and tape. Hope to try and finish of some sheetmetal weld ..... then get the interior done (wife will do that part of cutting and measuring sound proofing and matting) and I can try and get the brake lines done as well as the engine and trans in place. Still not sure what Im doing on fans/radiator and fuel as yet. Bought a dakota cluster as well as a collapsible steering column from ididit.
