I don't see why unless it was a 3/4 ton. All Suburbans that I have seen were 1/2 tons with a short wheelbase. They would have had closed knuckle Dana 44 front axles with drum brakes and either a 12 bolt or a GM corporate HO 35 drop out rear axle if it was a Chevy and a Dana 44 rear axle if it was a GMC.

Are you asking if the number would have been changed once the axle laded in a Suburban? If so,I don't think so. I've never seen any axle numbered specifically for the vehicle it was used in. The number pertains to the axle unit itself,only. I hope this helps.

Yes that's what I was wondering. I have had a time trying to just find out what year and exactly what I have. I'm trying to get brake parts such as the brake bar (thinking of making my own). I have been able to find the bearings, brake shoes. Still need one six lug drum and the right rear axle. I don't know if an after market is available? Found drums but not deep enough at the axle face area. Any help would be much appreciated.

Take a picture of the whole axel and post it up...we may be able to identify the axel and then you can get your parts

OK rearend..probly from a Van...I had a rear 60 years ago and was told early 70s era Chevy Van but?? don't have any facts or proff..soo...no help right

I scored at pick a part with the brake bar from a 1966 jeep. Same number and bendix. Found six lug drums on at 1981 jeep loredo with inline six that look the same but the holes for the studs are smaller. Going back to remeasure everything.

Have you tried Napa,by chance? Your rear may be unusual,but I have found parts from Napa that some say aren't available. I just had this conversation yesterday with my buddy who has a '54 or '55-1st Design 1/2t 2wd. He was able to get all his brake parts first trip,except wheel cylinders were at the central warehouse and took a day.

I tried Napa for the drums but no luck. Getting to the point of wanting to change it out for a newer model that I can find parts. This Dana is 62" drum face to drum face. It's 6 lug. Do any of you guys no of any Dana's that would fit? Or maybe another solution?

A couple of options would be a 12 bolt from a Chevy, a Dana 44 from a GMC 4x4 or a 14 bolt semi-float from a later GM vehicle. A 2wd 14 bolt is 3" narrower than a 4x4 rear axle. Not sure about the 88-98 axle pad width right now, but could measure it for you if your interested. The semi-float 14 bolt would be the strongest, but the closest stock axle ratio would be a 3.42. Another option could be a Jeep Cherokee Chief Dana 44 since they are wider than a Wagoneer rear axle. You could consider a disc brake conversion on the Dana 60 that may solve your drum issue. Did you look on Jollys 60/66 GMC website for any info on the brakes? I looked at info on there the other day and did see the availability of the Dana 60 rear axle in your application.
