Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
Thanks for asking..
It has been just over a year since I started the build. The wheels and tires are mounted and its finally on the ground. I completed the front end with a new power steering box and tie rod ends. I have been stripping the doors and hood in preparation for primer. Luckily, the front clip is clean with no rust and very little body work needed. I have been contemplating on switching the front clip for a 67 grill but have decided to stay with the GMC double head light front grill.

Man, You have kicked tail on this build in only a year. I wish I could keep up with ya. Your sheetmetal looks great. Keep up the hard work.
1 question, how do you plan on painting the cab underside? I am almost to this point and wonder what the best order? I was thinking about painting the bottom firewall and interior before mounting on the frame. Then paint the panels before assembly. |

Sounds like a plan to me. So have you decided on what kind and color paint yet?

How do you like the F-body accessory drive? I like how clean it looks over the other OEM options, and I would be interested how it fits

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
Very nice build, glad to see you chose a color other than black for the frame and suspension. I'm running the same drive train in my 72 SS Nova build and have the same model wheels, except that mine are grey centers. Great minds think alike. I'm leaning towards powder coating my frame a similar color, maybe the differentials also. Keep the pic's coming, looks great.

I like the way you did the rear brake line through the frame. Did you build that?

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
I see that you used CPP tubular engine frame mounts but what adaptor plates did you use on the block? Are those Poly motor mounts? Compared to stock location, where does the engine site? Forward, back, higher, lower? How far off the firewall. And last and not least. Howd you squeeze the A/c pump in there? Are you going to have enough room to run the lines? Or are you going to have to do some frame trimming? I am at this point in my build and want to pull the trigger on parts but still dont know what the correct combination of parts are to make it all work. Any and all info is much appreciated. Keep up the awesome work!!!!!!

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual
I took a break for a bit, but I am back on the body work in preparation for paint. After spending many hours on the fenders and hood I decided to scrap the GMC and go with the 67 Chevy front clip. I finally got my 9 yrs old son away from his PS3 and helping with the sand blasting. He is doing a great job... I will be media blasting the bed this weekend and will update with pictures. Still haven't decided on a color. The two hardest parts of the build for me have been wheel/tires and paint choice.
