THANKS! The brushing is a little shiny compared to the bought panels, but I'm happy with it.

Re: Legacy build

I got insurance on it today, so another hurdle overcome. Spent the last 6 days cleaning out my garage. The truck clears the door by 1", so now it has a home. Need to clean up the wiring, and loom it. Still have to do the do the whole DMV thing. I dont know if it has to be inspected or not, it hasn't been registered in 6 years.

It's been 112-116 here lately, it was 92 when I stepped out of the door at 5:00AM! It's no fun when it's this hot. Hopefully will be driving it next week!

Re: Legacy build

I have to do the few things, then lots O pic's. I was hoping the chevy lean would go away when I moved it from the back to the garage, it didn't. I am going to jack it up and swap rear springs, hopefully it will go away. I may have to buy new springs, or make a small spacer. Maybe just add some air bags and compensate for me and that tire on the left side. Anyhoo, it will not lean when I'm done.

Re: Legacy build

It's been a while since my last update. I still have not fixed the lean.

Had an intake leak, fixed that with a new performer intake.

The 700R4 gave me issues, and ate the front splines. So I pulled the TH400 out of retirement, ordered an Advance adapters conversion to accept the NP208 transfer case. Now have to order a Gear vendors overdrive for the 208.

I love taking new stuff and throwing it in the trash, only to buy new new stuff. Not really, it's kind of getting old.

Stay tuned for some cool stuff... after the brown truck shows up!

Re: Legacy build

Got it back together with the TH-400!

I have a violent shake/ vibration from 0-5 MPH. It rattles the truck and then runs smooth the rest of the way up the speedo. It did the same with the 700, so it's not the transmission. The drivelines are new,and such a low speed I am moving on. I need to check the rear end, but ran out of time.

I now have a whopping 11.7 miles on the ticker! It feels great to finally drive it!

Re: Legacy build

I tore into the rear end, and found some issues! New Detroit trac loc, and Superior axles should be here today. I have come to the conclusion that the owner of the blazer must have had everything serviced, just before selling it. The rear end, nor the transmission had any metal in the fluid.

The spider gears are hammered. The spider pin has about .030" wobble in it. The axles are wasted at the wheel bearings.

Anyone have a clue how the spiders get this hammered? The only things I can think of are alot of miles with mismatched tires, or ALOT of driving in the rocks. Ring and pinion look fine.

Re: Legacy build

Well, the brown truck showed up.

I assembled all of the new shiny parts into the axle, with a new ring and pinion, and put it back where it belongs. I am still trying to eliminate the driveline shake. I talked with my driveshaft guy, and he gave me some ideas to try. I will do more on it sunday.

That Tru Trac kinda fills up all of that empty space...

Nice pattern, did you have to shim the pinion or did you just remove the carrier and replace the posi

Re: Legacy build

Finally got my new drive shaft!

I have spent 8 days trying different angles on the old driveshaft. Tried a lowrider solid carrier bearing, still no luck. Just when I got the low speed shudder tollerable, here came a mid speed vibration. I completely eliminated all possibilities, so I went shopping. I spent alot of hours on the web, and made a decision.

I had Phoenix rack and axle build me a bulletproof CV driveshaft. This puppy makes my old shaft look wimpy

I will get it installed on Sunday, and hopefully my problems are gone.

WHOOO HOOO !!!

The shake is gone! Just have to finish up some misc. little things, and drive it.

I put about 70 miles on it this week, and can't be happier.

Pic, with the rest of the fleet...

Re: Legacy build

Glad to hear you got the vibration fixed. Keep us posted on how she drives and 'wheels with the coil spring rear. I've read your build a coupla times now all the while contemplating a similar 4wd swap on my c10 'Burb. Thanks for all the pictures and info/explanations! Looks great BTW.

Re: Legacy build

Nice build turned out very nice!! I have a question about your engine placement. I know the 2wd trucks have the engine a good bit forward and it looks like you set yours back like a factory 4x4 would be. How did u determine where to set it at and where did you end up putting the engine mounts/crossmember as compared to your old mounts. Maybe a pic or measurement from the factory holes to the new ones you made. I am doing the same swap and just want to see how u did yours before I bolt in the engine crossmember in the wrong spot Again love your truck, its what has inspired me to do mine. Tim

Re: Legacy build

Thanks for the compliments!

I used the Blazer crossmember and motor mounts. My mounts are centered on the rear two holes in the top of the frame (there are 3 holes). Besides drilling a couple of holes, the blazer assy. fits right in there. I had to cut an ear off of the lower motor mounts, because the 2wd frame is a little narrower (see pics). If you need specific pics, just let me know, and I will try my best to get some.

Re: Legacy build

Thanks, so you lined up the mount itself in between those two holes then laid the crossmember in there and drilled and bolted it all together. I just couldnt tell by thae angle of the pics, and wanted to make sure. Thanks again Tim

oh and have you been able to put some more miles on yours yet hope everything is going smooth now!!

Re: Legacy build

Long build surprised you waited this long to post. Very nice build, I really like the job on converting to 4x4 with newer Blazer. One interesting project, keep up the good work, it will be one ride your friend would have been and am sure is proud of. Thanks for sharing the back story and up to now with us.

Great project. My 69 C20 parts truck had been converted to 4x4 the same way but with 67-72 front crossmember & mounts.

The gears can get to look like that in a big hurry of it gets into water over the vent tube height and sucks in moisture.

Yes, the blazer crossmember naturally lines up there. The crossmember is in 3 pieces (two motor mounts and the crossmember). I believe the MM pieces lined up directly with the upper holes.

I have just over 500 miles on her now. Went to a couple of shows, and had a blast. I had a couple of glitches that put it down for a week, but OK now. I am going to change the rear diff oil this week, and then I can get her on the freeway for a good run.
