Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
If you need a starter I have one ill give you once you take legal ownership of the truck, if you need an ignition switch they are only $20 at any auto parts store. Good luck

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
He's buying it, he's waiting on a guy who does work on old cars about a Engine swap or something ...I appreciate the help everyone..means a lot ...I think today "maybe" will be the day I own a old truck and soon be as Great as all of you
Not to mention the husband of the seller told me, in his opinion its pretty much mine because of my story and his wife really wants me to have it so I can fix it up and drive by and show them.I told them it'll be in my Garage getting worked on.What is weird about this truck is there is no surface rust. It's all original Paint and some just oxidized worse then others.I meant to snap the Rockers and show how bad they were..but all around it looks like a good truck.I wish someone on here around my area would help me put the transmission into it when I get it and stuff I have one question though, the lower trim on these trucks.Once you take it off....Guessing you can just put it back...I thought it was Glued or something

Buy a shop manual , read a lot and screw around with it. A trans isnt too bad, except when you have no lift, etc.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Some of the CST / Sierra trucks have what's called a cargo light on the back of the cab (outside the truck) you can turn on to see what's in the bed at night etc. By the way that might housing (so I hear) is the same exact light housing they used on the 69 RS Camaros, .. just flipped upside down. Kinda cool to have it but by no means a deal breaker.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Mine had trim clips and double sided tape plastic clips. Should be 2 holes in front of wheel opening and in back with sticky tape clips in between. At least that's what mine had and it was factory.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
I actually remembered that I have a neighbor up the way that has every part imaginable for a 71 gmc truck and he's going to sell me door handles, rocker panels, tires, new side marker lights, sliding back glass window, An A/C Dash,A/C pump,Brake pedal covers,Automatic Bezel etc...
I know Mister-B problem is..I am broke right now, and am in a tight squeeze..When I went back the Husband has told me its pretty much mine..The family wants me to have it, trust me I know Money talks... But if I can get this truck then I have a Supply of stuff for lower price then Retail that I can get to get the truck nice.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Craigslist is your friend, did a search for transmission, oh yeah, nice find, good luck with it. You'll be surprised how well that will buff out, or good ole elbow grease and rubbing compound/polishing compound, then find a NAPA or auto parts place that can match the paint for the rusted areas.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
You might want to buy the truck first before you buy all the parts.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
Just a heads up..... They are NOT holding the truck for you. 2078 woodstone drive! Told me that there is no serious offers by anyone that has cash..... GET A DEPOSIT GET DEPOSIT Some how some way you have to get a deposit. If I showed up with cash in hand I would own YOUR truck.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
TY for the welcome Stoker. I did not want to introduce my self to the forum just yet but have grown to like this young man and his efforts to honor his grandpa's memory.
I also grew up without a lot of material things and I appreciate this young mans efforts. I believe that we need to encourage the up and comming generations to cherish the vehicles we drove new as teens ourselfs lest they disappear forever. I for one will donate $20 to his cause just because I will not miss the $ and will feel that im keeping the youth involved in our hobby. That being said we must come up with something that this young man must abide by such as a promise to pay it forward or never selling the truck..... Other sugestions welcome. |

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb
I say we just let him find his way, I did it long ago and I am sure a lot of others on here have as well. Its a simple Life Lesson he will either learn from or ignore. I hope he does get it though!
