Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

Yeah, yeah how about I just call her "Cloud .9".

Actually, long term and bigger budget I'd like to do this truck with PB dropmember and trailing arm conversion with coil overs all around for a super low static ride.

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

I ignored the ball joints when I did the drop, went to get an alignment and found out the lowers are shot. I knew better, just crossed my fingers and hoped they were still tight. The uppers are original, guessing the lowers are too, just more proof the truck had an easy life. So I guess that means I'll be replacing the ball joints this weekend which gives me a chance to cut another 1/2 round off the coils.

Ya'll have probably seen a stock engine bay. I like this one...but I think it needs a 5.3 or 6.0L. REALLY clean though, down to the stickers!

That is the best part of '87 vs. '86 and older: the simpolicity. There are way fewer vacuum hoses and BS on the TBI stuff.

It's also less stuff to tear out to go LS, and you get the good fuel tanks. Win/win!

Yep, and I will leave the transmission too. Basically the easiest LS swap there is.

Funny, I'm always wishing I had a 4wd unless I have one and vise versa.

Well, I took the truck to get aligned and discovered that the lower ball joints were shot. I knew this was a possibility but I burried my head in the sand when I was doing the drop. The fact that the uppers were original and the lowers likely were should have been my clue! I just didn't want to mess with it. So I rolled up my sleeves and got greasy (I hate this job). Well, now they're done, 4 new ball joints and outer tie rod ends. The ball joints were AC Delco, spent a total of $60 including one tie rod end and shipping. Not too shabbay!

I was able to use the beefy CPP sway bar too. Happy about that!

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

Ok, let's hope the lowering chapter of the book is closed. The 15x7's have been cleaned, painted and mounted. No clearance issues at all, lock-to-lock. I think they look great too.

Do ya'll agree that the rear window needs to be one piece and it needs a sport bumper? Those are the next two exterior projects unless somebody talks me out of it. I'll have to get into the a/c soon though. I'm just happy that it's ready for the local cruise-in (Saturday).

Well, that's true. If I got rid of my 4x4 and got a 2 wheel drive, I'd want the 4x4 back!...But then again, I though why not have both!
I kept true to my word and I bought a 2wd short bed on Saturday.. Your truck will be an inspiration for it, thanks! hahaha

As for exterior mods, I like one piece windows a ton better. And a sport bumper would look a ton better! I like roll pans better, personal choice.

Absolutely! That would really clean it up nice. That's exactly what I am doing to mine. Throw that winder and bumper in some classifieds and they'll make you a little extra cash too. Truck looks good!
