Looks like a good fix. No wheel pictures? I've been lookin for some 20's. I tried some but they did't fit. I guess the offset was wrong. A lot of the new wheels have a pos offset. I was pissed it was a good deal 350 for wheels and 1/2 bad tires.

Thanks Dave. The 20's are my Boss 307's that came of my '98 before I sold the truck. Maybe once this motor mount issue is put to rest, I will put the sheemetal on and get a picture...

Great build! Believe it or not, I remember this truck from the Street Machine Nationals in Waco, I was there that year, plus many others. I had a 65 short fleet, charcoal grey, 396 with a four speed and black bed cover. After the show was over, a bunch of us hit the cruise on Valley Mills and had some burn out contests and a few street races.

No real progress here. I think that I got the motor mount issue resolved, but need to do a little gringing on some welds before checking fit up. I believe that it will be fine.

Next is working on the brake lines again. I and going to use braided lines from the MC to the frame mounted hard lines. I got the idea from my 2004 Express Van. That is what the factory did more or less.

Right now my wife and I are discussing a shop. Do I build or rent. I might end up renting one with a buddy who needs to get out of a bad situation he is in with another guy. We are going to work on a 63 Panel together anyway so a shop together would be a great situation. I am working on a deal for a 40x60 very near my house and he is working on a 40x40 that would be a short drive for both of us, but possibly a lot less money for his. My neighborhood has some restrictions on shop buildings and the city has my lot as requiring an 8' set back from ANY property line and that puts it taking up to much of my pie shaped lot.

Anyway, I will get something done once my foot is recovered from surgery. Should be one more week before I can put a shoe back on it.

Well go some work done last night. I got some brake line parts from Speedway and worked on how my MC is hooked up to the hard lines on the frame. After looking at my 2004 Chevy Van, I noticed that GM used a section of flexable braided brake line in the lines from the MC to the Frame mounted hard lines.

Since I had to remake that section of my lines because my first set hits the headers, I ordered the fitting and 2 lines along with some tabs. I figured out where to mount the tabs and tacked them to the frame. I then hooked up the lines and it looks OK. I still need some cushion clamps to secure the lines, but I am happy with it.

I will get some pictures tonight after I mount the clamps.

I lack making one double flare on one line to complete the front hard lines. The rear need some more thought, but at this time I think that I will need a tee and 2 more hard lines. Instead of 3 flex lines for the rear (frame to rearend, the hard line across housing to flex lines to the caliper) I am going to do a hard line across the frame and then flex lines from the frame to the caliper since it will be a little easier to do that. Not sure yet.

I did get my motor mount issue resolved for now. I put it on and the notch cleared the header tube fine. I realized that I did not have a gasket between the head and header, that moved it over some and the notch is not centered around the tube like I intended. It still clears so for now I will go with it. Plan now is to finish the brakes then back to getting the motor finished up to start it. I need a few things for that...

Pulled the 9" rear out so that I can work on the C notch and might go back with a stock width rear. Not sure now..

For part of my Christmas presents, I placed and order with Brothers on one of their black friday deals. They had the blazer tank kit on sale for $175 plus shipping. That seamed like a great deal and should work great for my overall plans.

I need to make up my mind about tire size so that I can pick a direction with the rear end set up....

I have to second what Alan said, never seen it done like that either. Not in a truck or car.
But I like it alot!
It ends up looking a lot cleaner the way you have it running straight back to your firewall like that. I am soooo going to mimic that set up!

Thanks, I like how it gets them out of the way of other things in that area.

I still need to do the flex lines for the front and rear brakes then I will be done with the brakes.

Saw another one done this way this weekend. it was not done as neatly and one line looked to short, seemed to be no slack for body/frame movement. I wish I had a picture of it, but I know that mine is not the only one now.

The lines are -3 AN fittings. The adapters are -3 to 3/8"-24 Inverted Flare.

thats how my s10 brake lines are from the master. looks real nice, keep it up. i know ill be doing that when i change out my master to a dual chamber, or to disc brakes

In between working on Korbin's truck and some household projects, I got to work on mine a little. Put a temp rear end under the back and put it down on the 20" wheels/tires from my old '98. I believe this is the ride height/stance I want for it this time...

I decided to do a bolt in c notch in the rear for now. So I ordered one from CPP and it wont ship until some time next week since they are closed for invetory this week.

Now I need to decide on doing bags on the rear or just go with drop springs till I can do a complete air ride set up...

If the long-term goal is 4whl air-ride, do the rear w/bags & a simple schrader set-up.

i vote coilovers...... so you get the adjustabilty to match the front and a great spring/shock combo for handling.....unless you are 100% on bags in the front

Well I got my notches in a couple of weeks ago, but did not post them...




Yesterday I started to plan out what I want to do for a pan hard bar. After looking at many different companies and what they offer, I decided to make my own.

I started with a basic idea of the driverside frame bracket and drew it up in Autocad. I printed it out to scale and put it on some cardboard and made a couple of templates.


I taped them together with a spacer and clamped it to the frame. I used my jack stands to hold up a staight edge for reference.


I did not like the height of where the bar would be so I clamped a few strips of angle iron to the bottom of the trailing arms as a reference point and used a 2x4 as a spacer for the bracket. I put the straight edge on top of the angle and used it as reference. I like this location using the top of the straight edge as the center line of the bar. This puts the passanger side mount on the trailing arm.


Thats as far as I got this weekend. I will make a couple of brackets to weld to the trailing arm for that mounting point. I make new taller templates for the driver side bracket and mock it all up again to see if I like it. Since the bracket will be so tall, I might do a cross brace similar to the one in the Hotchkis TVS kit....I don't know...I'll see how it looks mocked up first.

What about using the OE Panhard bar reinforcement x-member?

I am going to be replacing that crossmember with one that is square in the frame and not at an angle across like the OE one. I was refering to a brace to strengthen the tall mount for the PHB.

Yeah that angled one is a PITA, really messes with my OCD where I think everything should be symmetrical and align right up.

Cannot wait to see what you do here, as it is not too late for me to mod mine just yet.
