Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10
It feels like you put down 30ft of weld and ground 28ft back off.

Haha man it feels that way doesn't it! My horizontal and vertical welds require very little grinding but those overhead welds really kick my butt. Not enough practice standing on my head laying beads. I could have waited until I flipped the frame but i got too excited and wanted to see it more together.

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10
I figured I would make an update even though there wasn't a great deal of progress, but in the grand scheme of things it's progress!
Surfing the board last week and saw a member looking for some brake parts, I knew everything on my rear end was getting replaced so I offered him the parts for the shipping. So I stripped down the rear end Saturday afternoon and boxed up the parts. Nothing new but all reusable and the price was right. I am going to have to shorten my rear diff anyway so I stripped the housing down completely, well I left the pinion in it for now. But I was pretty happy with how the gears looked. This old ring and pinion was a used set that I installed over 20 years ago from a junkyard rear end. 3:73, my original gear set was 3:08's. Not sure what ratio I will install when I'm done but it probably won't be these. I haven't done anything to the chassis lately but I have been making some plugs for the frame holes, been using some of the material I cut out from the notch install. I've got 5 days off starting Saturday so hopefully I can make some real progress on this thing. |

I just found your thread and I must say, you've done a LOT of work. I like the direction you're going with this. I'll be following along.

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10
Progress has been slow lately, caught a cold and have had a rough time shaking it. Just enough energy to lay on the couch during the weekends. lol
Got the rear end in the garage and started cutting off all the factory brackets. Break time. Slid the rear in under the frame rails and started mocking it up. Started mocking up the Watts Link after a couple of emails to Porterbuilt and a few pictures back and forth. Can't express how pleased I've been with the Porterbuilt products and Nate's patience in answering my questions. Some videos, hopefully they play correctly. |

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10
Thanks Ryan.
Not a ton of stuff accomplished during the holiday, a trip to the doctor for a sinus infection, my waist line increased and I got the air lines ran for the front bags. I didn't snap any pics of the hardlines but they are aluminum lines with AN fittings. Took a little video of the suspension cycling, pretty exciting to see the parts actually moving. I know it will still be a long time before this thing is rolling but it is one more thing checked off the list. |

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10
Hey bud, I have not talked to you in a while. Glad you got over your sickness. We went to that DFW swap meet, starting raining half way between Shreveport and Dallas....and it didn't stop raining all weekend, we had never been to that swap meet. I think if the rain wasn't happening it could have been a nice meet. I was kinda looking for a 4x4 high hump(no luck). I ended up just fabricating one from scratch, got it in this last weekend. Anyway good work on your project and holler if I can help you with anything.

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10
Man I wish! I had been out of state working most of the beginning of the year. My job ended in June and me and my brother in law went in together to build a shop. I have spent 6-7 days a week, 12 hours a day since June 4 out there working on the shop. I'm close to having the shop done but I don't want to get distracted from that by having the truck out there.
It's killing me to not work on it but I know once the shop is done I'll have a nice place to work. By the time this Texas heat breaks I should be back on the truck project. |

Awesome! I'm building a new 30x50 myself and you said it all when you mentioned the heat. Down here in southwest Louisiana, the humidity that goes with it! I'd say in ready for fall but that only accounts for about 2-3 weeks. LOL!ill be waiting for someone cool updates. Take care
