This color will darken some after I get clear on it, but will wait for that so I can do the cowl section at the same time along with the rest of the cab after I clean it up.

Again not perfect and I am not striving for perfect or I would not have painted it in my driveway.

Should be easier to paint that entire section also than just in the wiper section...thoughts?

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Didn't get much done the last few days... Removed the wiper linkage, going to blast it and paint it green. Started cleaning out the cowl area...going to remove the wiper motor and clean up the rust in the opening and sand clean up the rest of it for paint...got the e-brake handle and steering column bracket blasted and primed. Hopefully will get paint on them tomorrow. Looking at the cowl section with the original green still under the white...The firewall green is a great match to the original...I will give a shoutout to www.automotivetouchup.com for mixing the color. I have used them a lot over the years...always a great match.

Has he sent you anymore pictures? Should be getting it back fairly soon right?

Should get green on the handbrake today and silver on the steering column bracket. I am interested in how the silver is going to look. The paint arrived yesterday...hope to get more blasted and primed today. Need to go turn the heater on in my shop so it can warm up some.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

OK, shot some color on the pieces this morning. Hooked up a cross draft spray booth out of my blast cabinet box since it was chilly to spray outside. The steering column is Silver Pearl Metallic that was used on 1965 Corvettes. I like this color a lot! I will also put this color on my wheels. I will probably use a satin finish over it. I don't want it too shiny. I painted the hand brake handle #503 light green for just a little color in the cab. It will be the only piece inside the can that color. I will use gloss on it most likely to match the other green accents I will do on the truck.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Thanks guys...Slowly getting parts blasted and painted. Got the pieces off the steering column today...cleaned them up and painted them...not exciting, but nice to get the blue off and the new color on. Hope to get the inside cab painted soon.

Need to figure out my brakes. I have front disc and rear drum and it didn't have a proportioning valve on it at all...will crawl under the cab tomorrow just to make sure one isn't on the frame rail somewhere.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

OK so didn't get much done today...a friend is getting married and his wedding is getting in the way of my truck time. Wedding starts at 3...BUT I did get one coat of POR15 inside the cab floors and all the rust areas inside. Going to do coat 2 tomorrow.

However, I have been sanding dead paint off the truck and clear coating it. Today my wife helped with some sanding. We knew there would be original green paint on the tailgate..we see chunks of it all the time...so this is what she did with a sander today. It is a nod to the original...I love how she found the green under the white and primer. I think it will look awesome when I clear coat it.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Guess no one liked the tailgate "NOS" letters...Doesn't matter...we like it!

Anyway, kind of an overcast day today...waiting on the rain to come. So I sanded the cab somewhat getting ready for the clear coat over the dead and freshly sanded white paint. I need to scrape out the old seam sealer around the drip rail and reseal it. The green on the rear was mostly all there from where it was painted without removing the bed from the PO. Most won't be seen now after it all goes back together anyway. Still have to paint the windshield wiper linkage and under the cowl.

The tailgate looks really cool....Are you gonna try and do that over the entire truck? Sanding some parts to show the original color....but the most important thing that I thing is cool is the Misses helping out

Thanks...Not really going to do it over the entire truck. I wanted it on the tailgate. Thought it would be nice. I am just really sanding off the dead paint and sometimes I get to aggressive and it goes through to the primer, green, or metal. If it does, it does. I will clear it though to bring the shine back.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Have't gotten much done in the last week...the weather has sucked...rained every day. Today, I started working on the restoration of my "new" steering wheel. I cut into all the cracks and am going to start putting PC-7 on it this weekend. Once I get all the cracks filled and sanded smooth, I will epoxy prime and paint it my interior color.

I also tried Christians "trick" of using aluminum foil and water to polish the horn ring for the wheel...the pictures are hard to tell the difference but it is a huge difference! Thanks Christian.

Looks like they cleaned up pretty good! The biggest difference I see is that the chrome shines in the after pic, but does not shine in the before pic

Keep up the good work man

I am curious too! I just put the PC-7 on all the cuts I made in the wheel. I will let it cure, sand it smooth and see if I need to add more if there are any low spots. I think it takes 24-48 hours to cure.

Now I am trying to decide whether to paint the wheel the same I am doing the interior...silver or a matte/satin black.

Thanks, I owe it all to you...I took a better picture of the finished piece this morning. I am please and won't worry about getting it chromed for a while.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Wheel is gonna look really good, wished it had fewer cracks for ya but that is pretty much impossible due to the age. I haven't even thought about the steering wheel color on mine.

Im getting pretty good at sanding right about now..lol

Glad I could save you a chunk of change! It looks like a high quality piece now, compared to the before pic
