ok, so i've been behind on pics. Well, here are some pics.
Personally, I like the last couple the best. although the ones with the plates fitting in are pretty sweet too. ok, so this is the frame before any boxing took place. Really clean and really straight overall. I was pretty stoked to get a bunch of steel. I've never bought steel like this before, so it was a cool experience. I wish i had half the tools they had at the place i picked it up from. I ended up with 40' of .125"x6" plate, 24' of 2"x3"x.25" tube and a 4x8 sheet of 18ga sheet metal. All cut down to manageable 4" lengths Let the paper cutting begin!! and the tracing... I wish i could say this was on the first fit. I will say though that the first plate took about an hour to make(not counting the paper time), but the second one went a lot faster. btw, note how the back of the plate (under the cab) is not out to the edge... well, i tacked it in before i realized that a rivet was in the way of it coming out. So, the cutoff wheel came out and i started over. btw, i did pick up, then modified a welder cart last weekend. Also got a gas tank too. welds so much better with gas. So these next two shots show the only rust in the entire truck. All of the cab mounts are good, as is all of the outer sheet metal. It's just these little holes in the floor that need to be delt with. Oh, and that square one was an access hole that needed to be cut to get the MC out.

This is the only time my wife has... well, maybe not the only time, but the only time i have proof of her working on my truck. I figured she couldn't do much harm vacuuming out the dirt As i was unpacking, i kept mumbling to myself in a cartman voice... shinny parts... i got shinny parts... My wife was worried. and yeah, leave it to my son to stack the boxes with the lightest one on bottom. There was literally 120lbs in the top 3 and like 5lbs in the bottom one.

this weekend will be a dry run to see how the engine/trans fits in this thing. I know i could of gone with shorter valve covers, but like the look, and also want to leave room for future engine upgrades
i'll more than likely have to cut the firewall for them to fit. Now if only the LMC, ***************** and Scotts Hotrods shipments would get here. Can't really do much with these parts for a while. |

I think the ceramic coated look better, but was having a hard time justifying $440 for a pair. The thermal coated were about $130 cheaper. If i remember correctly, these headers are listed as chevelle headers. Also, after bolting them onto the block last night, they are quite different from one side to the other. the P side is long, i assume to clear the starter, and the D side is short, dumping out just before the oil filter. based on the first fit, it looks like they will leave plenty of room to change spark plugs, and just about all plugs could use straight boots. only cyl #1 will "need" a 90 boot. however, the msd wires i got all have 90 boots. :/ |

Dang LEVI! Did it feel like Christmas for levi? LOL Can't wait to see how it all looks in the truck. I am guessing the engine will set in the frame higher than most trucks of this era with BB's in them due to the bumper punchin goal? I know I wouldn't want my expensive headers draggin the pavement. LOL

So i made a mistake tonight...
I made a list of everything that has to be done yet. Then the mistake was thinking about the $$ it's still gonna take to get those things done. If i don't make my goal of memorial day weekend, it will be due to budget, not effort. And on the effort note, i got the front frame all boxed in. Just need to grind it down. We got the front and rear glass out, and i started in on one of the patches for the floor. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day... |

i also wanted to say that i delt with a new vendor this week for some parts that my usual place was out of. Mark @ http://www.stylinsolutions.com/ came to the rescue when i needed my SMC valves and 10 switch box. I will say i was a little nervous ordering from them due to a past experience i had with another "google searched" vendor, but these guys rocked. I talked to Mark to confirm the stuff i needed was in stock, and get an idea of how they work. I placed the order on tuesday, had the parts on friday.
I will say there was a quirk with their website within FireFox, but IE was fine and got my order in right away. Prices were also cheaper than my normal place for air stuff. So again, don't hesitate to order parts from Mark @ http://www.stylinsolutions.com/ make sure to tell them to "send levi some swag!" |

Here are the pics. I'll add comments shortly.
I started in on the floor work this weekend. Spent saturday morning making a patch for the drivers side floor. Turned out pretty well (i'm missing the shots of it done. i'll get them later) if i do say so myself. I'm not worry about the looks. Just want to keep my feet dry. Friday night we got the front and rear glass out. Then on Saturday, after searching all over Des Moines for the right sized clutch drive for two hours, we finally found one at Napa. Yeah, the one we drove by and I said "hey, we should stop there first". That's right Matt. I'm calling you out on that one We did end up getting all of the glass out of the cab though. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like i will be able to get the door glass trim off the glass due to rusted and stripped tiny ass screws. So may need to give LMC a call for those. I may look at drilling them out and just welding them back together. not sure yet. Ok, so Saturday was the big day for engine trial fitment. Overall, very anti-climatic. headers looked to be a concern at first, but once we got it slid back, all was good. These two pics show the engine about where it will end up. in these shots it's about 2" forward of where it will end up. my motor mounts from Scotts didn't get here in time, but it does seem to be sitting awful high. but at this height, we have good oil pan and trans clearance at the sacrifice of the floor. Fortunately it won't be anything to crazy and will still allow for the factory bench seat. So, with the test fit done, we started in on the trans X member. My goal was to have it mount 1" above the frame. I have an energy suspension trans mount that i plan to use, so we did some measuring and start in on the fab work. the tube is 1/4", and should make for a pretty beefy X member. because i'm not 100% on where the final mounting location will be, i made the plate on the bottom long (that will bolt to the bottom of the frame rail) and will shim the side plates with 1/8" or 1/4" steel if needed. But, for now, the X member is pretty much out of the way. Just need to do some more welding and grinding.
