Re: GM Semis
If the Rear Axel is in the right position, it might just make a good Roll Back!!
One thing I have learned with old trucks is, basically speaking, the less work you have to on them, the better the chance that you will get it on the road. A lot of projects end up getting unfinished when the plans are too extensive. Bill

Re: GM Semis
Looks like it's brand new.
I'd feel better if that Flatbed Trailer had a Head Board though. Bill

Re: GM Semis
Its a west coast thing. No head board required and I understand its not required federally either.

Re: GM Semis
Kool it, it may not be required, but I was always sure glad that my Flatbeds had them!!
Depending on what kind of loads you are carrying, but generally speaking, you are either limited on what you can carry or you are taking a chance on the load possibly sliding forward. Although rare, I have seen some around here on the East Coast. Bill

Re: GM Semis
here is a nice "late model" example with what I presume to be a 8v-71 and a single axle ( actually given the stated year (1979) i think it may be more likely to be the 4 stroke "fuel pincher" 8.5 or 8.2 I always forget because I heave never dealt with one )
a description and price are here http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsde...x?OHID=4133625 |

Re: GM Semis
I know these last two are not " Semi's" but I had to post this odd little 6-v53 powered bragadeer.

I would say that the engine in there is actually a 3208 Cat and the ad is incorrect. It seems like the 8.2 wasn't out till 1980 and I'm not even sure they ever put a 8.2 in one. They started putting 3208's in those trucks more and more in the later years. ....unless someone put a 8.2 in there?? Also puzzled on the Trans. The ad says 10-Speed and at first glance I saw a 13-Speed, but when I looked closer, I could only count 12?? ...I'll have to check on that one. Bill

Low is 1, 1-4 makes it 5 and splitting the last 4 (8 More) gives it 13-Speeds Total. My experience is with 10-Speed Road Rangers, 5 X 2 Duplexs and 5 X 4 Quadraplexs, but I never drove a 13-Speed, lol. Bill

Re: GM Semis
I think the ad just says V-8 Diesel, I forget that you could get about anything when I think of a GM v8 Diesel I think 8v ..... cat makes sense.
about the shift pattern.... did you miss "Lo" it is kinda hiding in the group with first and called out seperately ( just a guess as I have never driven one of these and they might ALL be that way, I was just confused when I looked at the pictures too ) I see you found out while I was making my poorly worded reply . |
