Re: New project
Talked to Travis at Calvert today and he pulled up the specs from the Blue truck i had . Looks like they only make 2.5 inch springs @ 200 a # spring rate. This leaves me having a set made and then having them milled to 2.25 in front for the spring pocket or replacing the front mount . Also looking at moving to a 9/16" or 5/8" front eye bolt for safety reasons . Also considering a sllider style rear mount vs a shackle any input on this would be greatlly appreciated , ecspecially street drivability and manners .
I have been wondering why i had 7 degrees of nose down pinion angle . I took some of that out with a shim awhile back , looks like the spring has been flatting a little every pass for awhile . I'll be starting from scratch on the pinion angle with new springs and adjusting the heighth with the rear mount . Looking at this front mount http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AFC-50200/ and these sliders http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AFC-20236S/

Re: New project
Well , ended up goung Mopar style front mount and rear slider . Speedway has the ball bearing slider for $49 each . The spring will be built to factory lengths and stock height and i willl adjust the ride height with the rear slider spacing off the frame . Also rear shocks are in front on axle and inboard of the leaf . These will be moved straight up and down and behind the axle . I am told the adjustments become more distinctive when the shocks are not angled and are vertical . Waiting on parts now going to the chassis shop tuesday after the long weekend . Im just letting the guy that did the cage do it .
I also bought a new ( used ) trailer . 24 ' enclosed with 4' side door and a/c and work bench . Picking it up saturday 20 miles east of Dallas .

Re: New project
Trailer deal fell through . Drove all the way to Dallas , 10 hours round trip , to find the trailer was from up north and had road salt type damage . Lost $100 deposit and $150 in fuel plus a day .

Re: New project
I saw you posting on HTR the other day and was wondering if it was the same hotrod80. Cool truck you have, and as close as youre running with Billy it must be fast! I've been considering stepping out of the lowriders and in to racing as a hobby.

Re: New project
I've known Billy since I was 16 and he's always been a pretty cool kat. I go out to HMP on Friday nights and watch a lot, I guess I need to throw a motor in something and come play

Re: New project
Billy is good as gold man. I have known him for almost 20 years. Has always had some nice cars and he does awesome work.
Should have my new motor in my truck soon Hotrod... Hopefully in a month or so I can come out to HMP and play some as well. Working a deal right now to get a lil cage done. Dont want to cut the firewall or back of the cab tho. Not sure I would need it for my lil' motor anyway. Hope your suspension changes work out for ya. Jay |

Re: New project
Yeah , me and Billy seem to end up as rivals . Good people .
Well , truck is in the chassis shop and rear frame is stripped down to the rails . New front mounts are tacked in and the will be ready for me to inspect in the morning before final welding . Same guy that did my 12 point cage is doing this work . Mclwayne's racecars in Baytown . I have been very happy with the work , price and time frame . Hoping to get it back monday or so . i'll get a picture up soon , as i think ive been almost a page with no new pics .

Re: New project
Got it home and did some adjustments to the bars Checked everything out to make sure it was ready to go and headed for the track friday night . Truck did pretty well ,, but had some space in the front spring eye mount inside the Caltracs and outside the eye . Seemed to be rocking on the sidewalls all the way down . Added some tire pressure as a temp fix . ended up 4 clicks from firm on the Ranchos and 1 turn of preload in the bars . Truck was working but i ended up going red bad almost every pass .
Got it home and saturday morning dropped the front of the springs and shimmed the space with washers for tractor supply . Greased everthing and set tire pressure at 17 . Won the first round and broke out second round with a 11.25 on a 11.30 . I even had the time to dump with my reaction ,, which still wasn't on . Sunday morning worked on it again . Pulled the spacer plates between intake and nitrous plat and plate and carb as it seemed to want to stumble unless it was at the perfect temp. Took 1/2 turn of preload out of the bars . Dropped 1 # or pressure out of the slicks so they could wad up and put my 26 " M/T sportsmans on the front . It went .006 right off the trailer . Worst light was a .051 . Got down to 9 cars and went red .093 . Truck seems to leave great if i load the converter and suspension . If i get a head start on the converter from idle it pulls the front tires straight out of the beams . Still working to get a handle on it . Points should come out in a couple of days . thinking sunday put me in the #2 spot .

Re: New project
Got a call early saturday for a buddy , " Where you at ? " They were at a 2 day race in Sealy Texas at Lonestar motorsport park . This is an hour and a half away . Mind you i just got chewed on the night before about racing and money and vacation blah blah blah . Im on the back porch and she says "who's that" im like "Rodger". wife " whats he want ? " , me " they are racing in Sealy and he was checking to see why i wasnt there " . wife " better get loaded up and on the road " . Go figure .
I load up quick and get on the road . Get there just in time to get 1 time trial in and pull back around to hot lap and the lanes are closed . They let me in for one more . Red on both time trials . Out first round on both tech cards with reds . Rodger buys me back in after we argue ( i usually dont buy back ) . 2 more reds . I walk up there and look thinks over and there aint much roll out at this track Lights are low and together . I pay Rodger back and head home . Swap tires and change the truck up to tone down the wheelies and soften the hit to the tires Get up and load the golf cart and go to head out sunday and the wife says we gonna get um today and loads up with me . Got the lights figured out and ended up going to the 8's and drew a bike . covered him and didnt chop enough out and went .04 breakout . Had fun though wife was fired up about all the rounds and a small payout dispite the 100 degree weather . Thomas' daughter Brittany out of out camp ended up going all the way and winning the Ironman . This is her last year in the Jr. She will be in footbrake with us next year

Re: New project
Got the motor mounts finished . Bought a set of solids , but put captured poly urethane in for now to try them . SOlids are in the trailer . Fixed the master switch so it works correctly , cleaned up the neutral safety switch wiring . Needed to get these fixed in case i go to a track with by the book tech . Pulled the passenger seat out as it will run 7.0 with that little bit of weight reduction .
Last race of the local NHRA season tis this weekend then reagonals in Dallas 22nd & 23 rd . Currently 3rd in points need a win to be track champion , but only 18 out of second . Worst yet . I have most of the parts to put another Luv together and im heading to Huntsville to look at on in the coming weeks . It is an Orange 75'

Re: New project
Well a Wally wasnt in the cards guys . I tested friday and pushed the extension housing bushing into the trans and got to see both walls . Saved it though . Worked til late into the night and got it back together early in the morning . Got spooked of the little 23 inch fronts and went back to 25's as they drive so much better . Ended up 6th in points for my rookie year .
