Re: k5 66
Although it's on the road.....I still need to rebuild the front end and drive shaft and build a new cross member for the transfer case.
The angle of the drive shaft and the cross member dont agree with each other.

Re: k5 66
Joey, can you get me some pics of the body mounts with the spacers? How tall of spacers did you have to have? Thanks.

The K5 frame came up, abruptly , in the back, and that is where I dropped the 1st body bolt in. I leveled the cab....placed the body mounts where I thought they should go on the frame.....and cut spacers to fill the void. Probably not the best way.....but thats how I did it. Not my proudest moment of the build.

Re: k5 66
It works, and looks nice to me...
If you were building a show truck, not a driver, then you might want to spend alot of time on them, but function first, form second... |

Late Model Seat Belts
Seatbelts....
66 to my knowledge didnt come with shoulder belts. Just lap belts. Cody and me went junkyard scroungin....and molested a late model suburban for its belts. The floor boards of the 66 are at about a 45 degree angle.....so we had to level things out.....as late model belts work by inertia. The belt housing has to sit perfectly level, so that when ya smash the brakes....a little weight swings in one direction or the other and locks the belts down so that they wont lengthen....allowing you to go flyin thru the front winder! I then mounted the top mount of the belts with big fender washers. This werent easy, as there was no way to physically hold the nut and washer with your hand. I had to glue the washer to the nut.....and then put the nut in a long box end wrench and slid er up in there. Took several trys.....but we got er done!

Re: k5 66
I did get the stereo plate flipped over and got the stereo installed. Didnt turn out too bad.
I also cut out a piece od aluminum diamond plate for a glove box insert.....and installed a 1-5/16" wrench on the dash for an "Oh ****!" strap.

I found some pix of it when we first bought it and thought I would share, as I did not have them when I started posting here.

Re: k5 66
Transmission trouble!
Cody called me from school sayin that his truck would only go forward. I told him thats good. Cause he would look awful funny drivin that thing home in reverse! We thought that the linkage in the column was wore out, so I went down and bought a B&M floor shifter. Turns out that the "S" hook had fallin off the valve rod (I guess that is what its called). Cody was excited about the new shifter, so we went ahead and installed it. Looks and works real well!

Re: k5 66
We still had the original radiator in it. About a month ago....it laid down on us.
The old one. I couldnt find a OEM replacement that I could afford, but I did find an aluminum one that was very affordable. The 1st on came in and it looked like it had got ran over by a bulldozer! They sent me a 2nd with no hassle. It fit well and was set-up for an automatic, so now we have a secondary transmission cooler.

Re: k5 66
The truck is 4x4, but I have yet to install the front driveshaft. The cardon joint would hit the crossmember, due to the amount of lift I have on it and the extreme angle.
So....I broke out the weldin machine and went to work on building a new cross member. There is probably a better way, but this is what we ended up with...... The original crossmember The unsuspecting stick of heavy wall 2" Transfer case mounting plate Figerin out how to make a close offset
