Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

you steering brace fit much better than on my truck if all you had to do is shim it.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

I will try and take pictures of the shims and the thicknesses. I did have to run a 1/2" drill bit through the tubing on both brace pieces.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

I got the steering brace installed and was in a hurry and forgot to take pictures. I will get some.

The steering box bolt hole shims where as follows:
1-Top column bolt no shim

2-Bottom column end 2-3/16" thick 7/16 washers( fits inside the dimpled bolt area of the frame) a 1/4" think shim.

3-Top radiator side bolt no shim

4-Bottom radiator side bolt 3-3/16"thick 7/16 washers plus 1- 1/4" thick shim (this is to align the small steering brace to the crossmember hole

5-the big brace to crossmember I drilled a 1/2" hole for a 1/2"X1-1/4" bolt. Used 2-1/4" shims.

I will get a few pictures so hopefully this will make sense.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

This is the small front brace. I did have to clearance the side of the tubing where it was to class to the front crossmember bolt.
Oh and I had to use 4-7/16 washers and the 1/4" shim. Earlier I said 3 washers.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

So think I am going to build a truck without tearing the green truck apart. I have a clean title that is a k20 so I am going to the DMV to find out what needs to be done.
I got some new parts for the rearend. Rear discs, axles, posi, gears etc. so I will try to get them installed this week. Pictures to come.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Is that going to result in a reconstructed title? I don't have an issue with those type of titles but it sure makes them hard to insure and dings resale big time.

I would think as long as those match it's a restoration isn't it? Really nice work on this new frame btw!

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

I meant I have the VIN plate from the the cab that was on the frame.... just wanted to clarify.

I have a bill of sale so that will be the issue to registration in California. I have a friend that works at DMV so I am hoping she can help.

Thanks for the compliment. I am currently working on the sway bar mounts as they don't look right to me. I think there will be a problem with it binding after the weight is on the suspension. So I think I am going to get a sway bar shackle link kit. I built a drop block for the sway bar where it mounts to the frame and was not happy with the look. This kit should also help with the ride...or at least that is what the comments I have read say.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Good luck with the DMV I keep putting my trip off. Need to retitle all 3 of our projects including the K30 build.

Shoot I was hoping the sway bar was going to work out the way you had it mounted on the frame rails. Watching closely as I'm sure you'll come up with something really clean looking.

The above bracket will help with the angle and give a little flex in the front suspension. These brackets work good if you have a lift. I had an 85 back in the day that had blocks to lower the sway arm off the frame to give a better angle and assist with binding but it was rough riding so I made a set of these brackets and the rod was so much better. So since I think it swap will have the same problem I just went and ordered the shackle kit for the sway arm. I will post pictures when installed. The frame mounts of the sway arm should look the same.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Got the ring and pinion all set and mocked up the rear disc brake set up. Just had to weld up the caliper brake line tabs and we are good to go. I got the rearend in primer.
My sons have prom and 2 trap shooting events this weekend so we will be out of town. So no work on the truck.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Hey guys I need a little help. I need a few pictures of how the brake lines are run on a 72 k10? For some reason the SS kit from inline tune came with no instructions and since the frame is stripped I am not sure how it installs.

Please help??
Thanks guys.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Typically both calipers are hard line to the center of the axle and 1`flex hose up to the frame with a bracket to support the brake line on the frame.

Mine ran down to the left frame rail crossed over fallowing the front cross member to the right side. I don't have pictures you are ahead of me installing the break lines.

Left as the driver side? my frame has the rear hard line bracket on the passenger side. I think I am going to remove and install the bracket that came on the 91 burb frame I bought. the line I have looks to stop about where the original engine crossmember was. I thought the lines ran across the very forward crossmember (where the steering brace attaches).

As far as installing the brake lines I figured since I was doing the rearend I might as well get the line to the front of the frame.

The rear caliper hose ends have 3/8"-24 female inverted size and the brake line kit has 7/16-24.So I had to pick up the correct fittings, but since I have to cut them down and re-flare its no big deal.
