thank y'all! its been a long road up to this point

but it went pretty smooth! only took about 5 start attempts which i think is damn good

1st time my feed fuel line to the filter/reg was leaking, tightened it up & it was all good.

2nd time turned the key on & got power but no start. did some digging and found the starter solenoid was no good. and of course you cant JUST buy the solenoid. so $200 later we're on to attempt...

3. hit the key and the battery is to low now to turn it over

4. swapped in another battery from our '87 442 (800 CCA ) turned key and we had start but no fire.
dug some more & found the 12V switched wire for my PCM was flat lining when i turned the key to start position. switched the wire to a slot with 12V with key on and start position

5. hit the starter and she fired right up. drove every dog around here nuts. great way to end a saturday tho!

Re: '82 Shortbed 6.0 project

I also had to get new starter. Mine would spin but not push the gear out to turn flywheel. I think the ls starters are gold inside. Mine started on first try but my carb was already full of fuel from the drive over to swap. But shortly died cause i had my fuel pump switch off. Could not get it to start for noting. Then i realized what happened.

Re: '82 Shortbed 6.0 project

got some more done today.

got a stock upper rad hose for a 01 2500. fit great, used a flexible one on the bottom. (LS1 Radiator if i haven't mentioned).

ALSO, did the XJ intermediate steering shaft mod an WOW what a dramatic decrease in steering wheel play. wasn't sure if it would work well with a 2WD but it fit great. well worth the $31 i got in it cant wait to try it out on the street!!! its too dark to get pics now but ill try & have some up in the AM.

got my Lokar shift linkage installed as well.

now just waiting on one of my U-joints to come in and electric fan pigtails.

she'll be road ready very soon!!

Re: '82 Shortbed 6.0 project

got the electric fans and cooling system all up an running, shes basically ready to hit the road!

i will be getting the exhaust done soon, dual magnaflows, completely real and legal catalytic convertors with no crossover. i think it should sound pretty sweet.

i also picked up a 9.5" 6 lug 14 bolt i decided to go with so ill never have to worry about it, planning a disk brake & trutrac install with Caltracs.

& ive got a 10.5" rear and a 12 bolt im selling btw if anyones interested.

& thanks man.

i have connections to a prison ran paint/body shop. they do all the labor for free, all it will cost is supplies, inmates do the work but they are quiet choosey which ones get this privilege. someone i know had his car done, he went an told them to just take their time.

it took 9 months but it turned out incredibly. looks like a $5,000 job for $800. cant beat that.

i dont rely on mine so i can go 9 months without it easily. needless to say...
