I have put it in one show and got first in the 4wd class, dont think i'll venture as far as Arizona though! Finally got my interior finished and all I lack on the truck is heat/air unit. I drove it to work today cause my 99 was out of gas, man 95 degree weather makes me wish this truck had A/C!

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion

Thanks for the kind words guys! Had a little mishap when I rebuilt my drivers door hinge, thought I could handle the door myself but I dropped it and took a hunk of paint off the bottom of the door and put a pretty large bow in bottom of door, truck is back at paint shop and he's also fixing the large scratch I put under hood trying to install it by myself. I guess i'll never learn to be more patient and ask for help installing these heavy panels! Get the truck back tomorrow and then i'm ordering a Vintage Air setup to complete the build.

Yep, I also broke my mirror off. Ordered another from a board member. I have buddies that live just down the road, I just have no patience, when I want it done I just do it. Bites me in the arse usually!

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion

Finally finished my vintage air install today, not particularly thrilled with the location of the compressor, but i'll live with it. I also installed my lower door carpeting I got from LMC to match my kick panels, thought they turned out cool.

I wouldn't live with it, that looks terrible. You have a beautiful truck and it should be done right. Do you have a short water pump? (Can't tell in pics). Tell VA you want the mount that uses the front of the head and manifold bolt to mount (check out my VA link in my sig for pics os mine.)

Gene,

I've got the compressor mounting kit that came with my unit that I'm not using. Maybe you can use it on your setup. I may be mistaken, but I don't think the bracket I have looks like yours. I'll check this afternoon.

Edit: I found a picture of the installation kit that I have. Is this the same kit you installed?

Not sure, the writing is different? Do you have a pic of the bracket? Looks like the same part number.

I had a factory one but didnt like it, too big. This one is just the right size, although I agree the factory one looked much better.

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion

My bracket looks to be the same as what you have now. You agree?

Since I'm running a GM compressor and serpentine kit, I've never looked at my VA bracket and hardware.

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion

Well, the first attemp at chargind didnt work out so well. Before he charged it he noticed I had the drier installed backwards(Vintage Air does not provide very detailed instructions for this part). We turned it around without replacing the o-rings. So, it did hold vacuum for an hour but on the drive home it lost all of the freon. I replaced all 4 that I backed off and am going to have him inject dye this time to make sure theres no other leaks. It blew cold for a little while

Re: Gene's shorty 4x4 conversion

I was looking through your build and love your seat cover (and truck!!). I am looking to have a tourquise one made for my 67 swb custom cab. I was just wondering if you had any info on where your upholstery guy got the fabric for the inner panesl. I have looked into nos fabric that is pretty pricey. Just curious if this is what you went with?? Thank You!!

Kennystrucks.com is where I got all of my interior. He gets the covers pre assembled.

Ya know, I had the same reaction as I watched it sell. Same guy was selling a 4x4 blazer that was the same color. It brought 75,900. I was watching these closely. There were no other 67-72 4x4's that got close to this price. 39k "I think" was the next highest price on a 72 SWB 4x4 and it was black and white. I guess it was this guy's lucky day.
