Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"

one other question , i notice the top of the fender to bedside area is open and then the bottoms of the inner bedpanel to bedsides are capped, just thinking out loud but if you are driving in the rain are the tires going to throw water up into the bedsides and then will it be trapped ? or is there drain holes we just can see ?

Actually Keith it is very stout in that area especially when the flat flanges are installed reverse on the tubs where it bolts to wood. However since I have spent hours fitting the tub to the bed panel with no intentions of seam sealing the top side (tub to panel--just paint to paint) I may panel bond a couple of small bolts to the outer panel at the tub top to keep from having a rubbing effect-although when completely bolted down it will be unlikely--Make sense??
If it doesn't work like I think-I can always go back and cut that 4-5* angle into the tub at top and have it butt like stock tubs instead of flushing inside.........jim

That bottom capping is gaped at ends--but after tubs install-that open area will be seamed sealed -not much chance of water entrance...fender idea would be PIA --just thru that out there..........lol............jim

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"

I knew u had my back!!! Back on the dash this week--trying to get bedsides done to bolt back together cause wheels are do in 2 wks-trying to get backspacing perfect to narrow rearend-U can do all the figuring U want but nothing better than putting bed down over tires &wheels and measuring between-Can't mess up that way!!That's why all the work on inner panels-I'm anal about tire to wheel lip distance and also look how crisp the new wheel well lip is without the inner spot welded to it--Only going to do this once!! this is the wheel...........20 x 8 1/2 and 20 x12's

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"

See if these give a better look at tub layout-Mike u can see where tubing stops above marker lite-no reason to extend further and it gives water relief!!
Also would allow me to do this gas filler trick if i wanted--probably not though-when finished the cap was to be body color and perfectly flat...........jim

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"

That's my #2 favorite gas filler mod besides huggercst's I believe rear light gas filler mod? But I was going to do like above because I wanted to run the LED taillights with the billet trim and they wouldn't work with the taillight filler mod.

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"

I actually found one on ebay a while back when I was planning this mod. Have the exhaust pipe for the bottom bend and the stake pocket...just never got around to finishing the project I intended it for.....some day!

This is what I used on my 68. You can get it at a boat shop for about $45.

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"

A little update---still working on body panels with a bodyman buddy of mine who is having rough time financially --He is working panels before he has to give up his shop!! Nate sent me a late Christmas present with this rear cab panel kit (just layed in for now) Also got my front 14" grand sport rotors and dropped spindles from Boris (way2lo) Thanx guys!!
Hey Mike--(67 cheby) My wife says "your NOT going to cut that perfect fender (in epoxy) for those big ol' tubz are u"??? I said "with your permission" one of these days!!! LOL She just walked out of shop shaking her head!! She didn't see where I had cut this gaping hole in a perfect door for bearclaws in between body work!!.................Ya'll all have a good new year!!!................jim

Awesome work! Love the tail gate mod too! The fenders may be much, but once you did it and the truck was done, may be pretty awesome I think!
