It really is fun, though can be frustrating at times for sure!

I think I'm honing in on the final design for this cluster though. I opened up the back more, as clearance is still an issue. I went ahead and went with a flat design for the back to reduce weight. On the one hand, it saves in some material costs for printing, on the other, it means more cutting time on a CNC . . .

Not a problem .

Had some downtime while a test print is going, so I designed a plate to go over where the previous fuse box was. Going to see if I can use that square cutout from the old firewall plug to run new power bulkheads for rewiring.

This plate will cover the square hole, and give 1 bulkhead for a 4 or 6 awg wire to feed power to the fuse block, and then a bulkhead to provide power to various chassis components (headlights, turn signals, horn, etc.).

Eventually, when I do an LT motor I'll likely have 1 additional plug for all the engine power/sensors/etc.

These are standard Deutsch connectors. The multi-wire bulkhead it a step down from their pro-racing series, and since this isn't like an F1 car I think it'll suffice. Eventually, I might polish the actual connector, as it's aluminum, but unpolished.

Gauges are on order, and printing what I hope is the final test of the back pocket design, then I'll print and assemble the two pieces from matte black plastic. If I love it then I might look at getting it milled. I wish I had a CNC, but have no room for one right now (plus they're spendy as hell).

First half printed!

Removeable rear support grid:

Front side:

Next step is to print the second half and then bond them together.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Project "Ghost of Poseidon" - 1972 C10 Pro-touring

Well it's been a long time, and honestly I haven't worked directly on the truck much. But I have been hard at work building my company, getting space, renovations (still ongoing, etc.)

I have also taken my prototyping a step further and invested in a CNC, and a few days ago was able to make my first gauge prototype. Made a few errors, but the next one will be even better. I'm having this one powder-coated black and will mill back off a few accents. Once I have the base template down I'll be able to customize these to any theme or build, gauge config, etc. but that's down the road. For now, a few shots of what I built for Poseidon.

Back from powdercoat. I need to open up the top holes more as the powder made them too tight for the gauges to nest inside the holes as they should.

Tossed it back in the mill to cut off the powdercoat around the top contour, and gave it a roughened edge for some texture.

Also trying out Photoshops AI-generated background so it's not just propped up on my dirty workbench .

Re: Project "Ghost of Poseidon" - 1972 C10 Pro-touring

Been awhile since some updates, but wanted to post a bit more work on another interior part I'm developing. I'm likely leaving my job early next year and going full time into my own business, and preparing for that in my free time. I won't post anything more here about it for now so as not to give the impression I'm advertising.

In any case, I picked up a new tool recently that will allow me to build parts faster. I'm not using a 3D scanner to help pick up dimensions. When I did the dash piece I used calipers to find all the bolt/hole locations, and it took several iterations of 3d printing, measuring, etc to get it right. I hope to reduce that cycle quite a bit with a scanner.

So I took off the glove box door and did a scan of it:

I was then able to import that data in my CAD, and start building a model from it.

With that, I was pretty quickly able to build a model of a prototype that I can then further customize/beutify for specific builds in the future.

All of this was done in about 7-8 hours of work time. Another day of work or so and I could likely have a prototype milled, or send 3D print it in a few days for a test fit out of cheap material.

All very cool stuff!
