Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Today was a sad day, I tried to install my windshield together with a friend, but the windshield absolutely wouldn't slide in, then an ugly noise and a crack, that's it. Now I have to buy a new windshield first, I'm sad and had to drink a beer first.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Was it an original windshield or a replacement? Reason I ask is I have the original in my 62 and when I pulled it to replace the gasket it was a pain to re install. I actually had to hire a glass guy to install it and he said the replacement windshields are thinner and the gaskets are made for replacements not originals. So to use a replacement gasket with an original windshield is very hard to install.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
That's a good tip, I'll check it out. There is a difference in the seals, which were installed, are significantly softer than those from Precision, I cleaned and prepared them first, a new windshield is on the way.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
The new Windshields have arrived, ordered two, better safe than sorry.
kidding, my buddy needs a new Windshield for his 1960 GMC Apache too. Were delivered really quickly. Now find a Solution for the too narrow Windshield frame.

Excellent news Harald
How much did it cost you per screen to take that photo?

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
News from the Shop.
Brake system is finished and bled, now it also brakes at the rear. Parkbrake cables adjusted, the springs on the cables that sit in the drum were much too long, so the idle travel was too large and therefore had no effect, the cables were also too long, are fairly new and installed by the previous owner, but certainly not for a '62 because the axle comes from a Pontiac...who knows?. But now everything is correct and bites on the 3rd click, very good. Carburetor is actuated via a cable throttel and built for a holder is pretty smooth, mounted a trial the new air filter ..... chic. @62c30 It will have been the original Windshield , the thickness was 5.7mm, the new one is only 5mm. @all, I wanted to take the old Windshield Seal back, it's in mint condition, will it work?

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.
On Friday my buddy is coming with his pickup and we can bring the huge box with the windshields to my shop, I'm a bit scared to install the new windshield, I can already see myself buying another windshield...... Cross Fingers.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
With the Electrical begun arrange all Wires and installed the fuse box.
With the installation of the Windshield there is positive news, my Buddy has a Buddy who works in a Glass Shop, first the new Windshield comes in the 60s Apache, then another day, the 62 comes. That gives hope.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
The Dashboard is connected to the wiring harness via the original connectors, the front wiring harness also got the connectors in the firewall, is a little more work but worth it. Engine wiring harness is also ready.

I have my harness sitting in the box waiting to be fitted. Thanks for the pictures as it has helped me think where I can put mine and how to run it.
Truck is coming along nicely Harald, be driving it soon! P.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
The Wiring in the Dash is ready so far, when the steering column comes in, the rest is wired, out to the front for the headlights, I have fitted the original connector with new plugs, the Engine is wired and everything is out to the rear.
After I cracked my windshield while installing it myself, the professionals were allowed to do it today and now it sits the Windshield clean in the Cab. The crossed fingers helped

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Really like the grey/red contrast. Very smart looking truck.
Thanks for the offer of help on the wiring, when I get to that stage I will be in contact. P.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road
Your truck is looking very cool. Very nice job on the windshield and the wiring is coming along nicely. I don't know how you feel but getting the windshield in is a game changer for getting the truck streetable. Good luck.
