Re: Project#1: Bright Horizons - 68 Swb on Air

again I'll be finding the money to send my truck to you soon . love your logic though man gotta be able to find those priceless deals but spend a lil on the stuff you really want as an owner/builder. I know in my own I see no expense too high just aother couple worrk weeks to pay for

No offense taken.

I have really appreciated all the time Jonathan has put in on sourcing the parts for me. It seems like that takes just as much - if not more time than actually putting the truck together. He's done a good job balancing my budget & giving options on the build.

I'm sure if our wives got together, my wife would be complaining about how much money I'm spending on the truck, and his would be complaining about how much time he spends on craigslist/ebay.

Glad to help and enjoying the process!

I could do a really fast build if budget wasn't a consideration...but for 99.9% of us I realize it is. I look at some of the amazing builds and how fast they turn them around and am impressed...but people watching them have to realize those guys are paying top dollar for every part and many times rush shipping to get those things together and that's how someone has 50-60K+ into a restoration of one of these trucks...

Re: Project#1: Bright Horizons - 68 Swb on Air

wives...... this is why sometimes im glad to be single lol jk guys some day i might make that plunge but right now someone doesnt have that in their plans for me, as for prices between (i know) barrett jackson, high end 50-60k restorations there are people who try to sell their vehicles for or close to their (appraisal) value, correct me if im wrong but from what i understand an appraisal from the insurance company is usually higher than the actual value of the vehicle so if somthing were to happen they get top dollar such as having jewelery appraised

Re: Project#1: Bright Horizons - 68 Swb on Air

Sometimes the parts are worth more than the truck itself would be so if the insurance company went with an agreed value policy based on receipts then I could see that happening.

Here are some more parts since I wasn't able to get to the body shop today. Going tomorrow for a full day. Here are the nib rad support and triple nickel chrome plated 5yr warranty bumpers (much nicer chrome than the cheaper ones)

Re: Project#1: Bright Horizons - 68 Swb on Air

And here are some of the suspension parts. I have

Blasted and por15'd upper and lower a-arms with new cross shafts and ball joints
All 4 dominator d2600 air bags new (2 mocked up but not run-pictured w/fittings and cups)
Ece drop spindles
All new tie rods, etc for front
Perfect trailing arms (other than the chipping purple paint ) with new bushings installed already
2" lowering blocks with longer u-bolts
Ece super trac bar
Stock sway bar for front
5 lug discs cross drilled and slotted for front
Mcgaughy's new calipers, hardware, etc for front
Same shocks used by ece for their lowering setup new in box
Ece rear shock relocators
Upgraded front shock studs

I think that's it

The business manager wants to know when we're going to see some income, and how we're doing against budget.

Re: Project#1: Bright Horizons - 68 Swb on Air

So...as I mentioned the guy finally was able to come today to look at the bed. Left a deposit and is coming back tues to pick it up.

Hopefully tomorrow the big block will be sold also. Have a guy coming to look at that in the afternoon. To prepare for that I got the rad, shroud, wiring, and all the bb brackets and power steering off.....soon appearing on a parts board near you

Forgot pictures of the engine bay cleaned out so these will have to do...

And two more pictures....the bed repairs after primer and undercoating. The rest of the bed had undercoating which obvoiusly protected it so I added it where the repairs were done

Thanks...yeah...I have a "few" parts

Bed first patch I am super proud of. Next one I was rushing because of a light rain starting and also the shop's welder is acting up...it won't work on its' two lowest settings which are what I need for sheetmetal. So I have to hold the tip further away or I blow out even the newer metal since this welder welds frames also...with the tip further away I get messy welds... but it's solid and sealed up now. Going to work on the welder a bit to see if I can figure that out because it's really nice when it's on the lower setting.

If not, I'll just bring mine and go ahead and get gas for it.

Re: Project#1: Bright Horizons - 68 Swb on Air

Thanks, going to be a few days before I get progress made. My wife's grandmother, aunt, and cousins are in town so she's had our vehicle taking them out places. I've been at home w/out a vehicle working on parts or taking care of little ones...

...Which is not too bad because I needed time to catch up on some parts I'm working on. But takes me away from the project. I need to find a cheap runner to get back and forth to the body shop but all I seem to be able to search for on craigslist is 67-72's

Been searching for some more deals for the parts and buying/selling others as well...

Will be going down to the shop tues definitely but possibly monday depending on the schedule and weather (might be a washout)

Thanks for stopping by. Have you chopped the top on your swb yet to replace the sunroof?

Tomorrow will be more time working on parts since it looks like a washout...however...

I'm going to look at a 67swb as a possible part's chaser...have needed a truck about 10 times the last two weeks so I decided I had to bite the bullet and get one

Truck has no engine or tranny...but I have some extras of those

My wife likes it and it's got a cool patina to it. It's a small window stepper...

Pics to come tomorrow if I buy it...
