Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I was very fortunate to find a talented upholstery guy, Gary Dunow, in Yorkville, Illinois. The cost for my interior was $2500.00, I provided the ABS plastic headliner. Gary upholstered the seats, the area behind the seats and sub woofer box, the kick panel speaker "pods", the 57 Buick arm rests, sun visors as well as making the door panels, shifter boot, and fitting and covering the headliner. He used loop carpeting with sewn edges and made matching carpet mats. The paint, 55 Chevy dash, gauges, steering wheel etc. all add up as well, but I am very happy with the finished product, Thanks.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I haven't posted any updates for a while, we picked the truck up Sunday from the body shop where Jason Ohl straightened the front sheet metal and got the hood and fenders aligned properly. As it was a basket case when I purchased it so this is the first time that everything that is hinged (doors, tailgate, hood,) all function properly. Last night I started final assembly, (as primer will be this year's color), I'm getting pretty excited about making the maiden voyage.

Chuck, the wheels are painted, I used Rust-Oleum Dark Pewter texture paint, lots of masking but the texture makes the wheels look more like castings than billet.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Got the back of the truck done, 46-48 Chevy tail lights, 54 bumper and modified splash apron and the 52 Chevy car license plate light. Running boards, fillers and the exhaust is on as is the re-chromed grill. With the front bumper, splash apron and headlights it should look like a truck!

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I ground the front bumper brackets down to bare metal, primed and painted them before I trial fitted the bumper...... then I cut them apart to move the bumper a couple inches closer to the grill. No wonder it seems like I never do anything but work on the truck, it's usually the second or third time around before I'm happy with the way it's done. Here's a picture of the front end, mostly together. Damn, the older I get the faster the Summer goes by!

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

It's almost road ready, I originally ditched the big front fender supports that tie the fenders to the core support for tire clearance when lowered. Saturday I drove to Wisconsin to pick up another pair as there was not nearly enough structure to support the front end. I modified them so they will clear the tires, but need to add rods from the fender to the core support so that everything isn't moving around. It's close, I don't want to damage anything because I got in a hurry.

I'm not running any front fender supports either and I added some other support rods like you suggested to tighthen everyhting up. I have put quite a few miles on mine since with no issues.

Your truck is looking good. You should bring it to the NSRA nationals in Kalamazoo, MI in September.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Marc, thanks for the info, adding the inner part of the original mounts helped a bunch, it allows me to use both bolt holes on each side and sandwiches the fender between the bracket on the core support and the cut down fender bracket. A couple "struts" from the side of the core support to the bottom of the fender and it should keep the front end pretty stable. I'll be looking for you in Kalamazoo.

Sounds like a plan. I will be there Friday through Sunday. It is in my backyard, so if you have any questions about the area just say the word.

Looking forward to seeing your truck in person. It's one of my favorites.

Thanks
