Re: 1968 GMC "Camillian"

Haven't worked on the truck much, I did get it together enough to be road pratap and drive it quite a bit. A few things have come together, most notable is the Camaro hockey stripe, lowering the back another 2" and painting the center of the tailgate semi gloss black. More pics to come when it's dry and out of the booth!

I like it!! You make it look easy. It is very time consuming but I just read through the thread so it seemed like no time at all. Good luck and keep posting.

Still not quite dry, but unmasked and a better idea of what it will look like!

Thanks! I've been at it nearly three years. It helps when you do this for a living, and have the shop to use.

Lined the bed with Duplicolor bed armor. That stuff works well, but it's a little messy.

Very nice! I like the white walls and stripe, they go well together. Yea I never got into body work I just do the mechanical part. But when the time comes to do the GMC I will do it. I have an older gentlemen that is an awesome body man. He will guide me in the right direction.

Thanks! The whitewalls are actually getting replaced with some camaro style rally wheels and white letter tires. That will go with the theme of an what an SS pickup might have been. I do agree that the whitewalls go well with the color combo, one of the guys at work keeps telling me the same thing. Either way, I'm trying to keep the whole thing believable that GM may have made these, so period correct and not too far over the top is the goal here. And maybe when I'm done I'll start on another what if vehicle.....

Thanks everyone! I'm excited to see it getting done myself, it's been a long haul. I was actually reluctant to do the hockey stripes, because they are a '69 camaro element and the truck is a '68. However my boss laid a quick masking tape version on the truck and I was sold, he also sold me on the semi gloss black tailgate like the big block cars had. I have to give him the credit there, he has a great sense of style.

Re: 1968 GMC "Camillian"

Very nice truck. Those rally's really look nice on there. Might have to steal (copy) that little trick of raking the gate forward on my next project a 63 GMC waiting her turn. Really cool.
I am building a 68 1 ton dually, short bed, step side right now.

Thanks guys!

I don't have pictures, but since it plan on driving this truck a lot fuel economy and reliability are important. I'm running a 4.8 votec v8 and 4l60 trans. I've been using HP Tuners to get a few more mpg and horses out of it. I'm planning to drive it to Colorado in May for my vacation and don't want to break the bank doing it. I plan on sharing what sort of fuel mileage I get out of it.

I also installed a Richmond powertrax locker, and a tonneau cover. I hit the road for Colorado on Friday, we will see how she does on the 2500 mile trip. Posted via Mobile Device
