Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Just went through the whole thread again. Nice work very thorough and clean. I have been trying to decide what mufflers to use on my '66. I had thought/heard about the Brockman's, but had never actually heard them before your post. I like that sound. What length did you use? A thinking of exiting mine in front of the rear tires.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Had a great swap meet this weekend. Weather was in the 60s yesterday and today and it's 80 percent chance of snow and showers tomorrow. Perfect timing. I met a whole lot of members I had never met before at the swap.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
I have the 24 inch Brockmans. They are called 24 due to the body length, but they are 30 inches overall. Brock is good people. When you call you talk to the man himself. He will help you decide which of his mufflers suit you best. Mine were 71 dollars total including shipping costs and took 4 days to get from the time I hung up the phone.[/QUOTE]

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Awesome truck TX! I was going to try and make it out to the swap meet on Sunday, but decided to work on my truck. It was cheaper that way. Love what you have done with the truck. I REALLY want a 63 swb.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
I appreciate everyone's kind comments.
Low Dough, I have done a lot of 67-72 trucks, but my dream truck has always been a 63 short bed. I wouldn't settle for anything earlier since 63 was the first year of the front suspension I am so used to with coil spring instead of torsion bars. I also wouldn't settle for anything newer because I had to have the wrap around windshield. It was a 63 or nothing for me. I just got lucky and stumbled across this truck after looking for one for about 10 years. Honestly, I like it so much that it has become a pampered truck. I only drive it 3 times a week or so. The rest of the time it sits in the garage nice and warm and dry while my new Toyota sits outside in the weather. This is the first one I vow to never sell. That's one reason I painted my name on the doors, to make it undesirable to other folks. I still had a few dozen offers to buy it at the swap meet though.

Those are the exact reasons why I want one. I think it is fine the Toyota sits out side. It is young and can handle the weather. Oh, I still want your truck even with your name on the side Last edited by LOW DOUGH; 03-02-2010 at 04:23 PM. |

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
It's been a while since my last visit to this section of the forum. I was actually looking for your cool dual snorkel air cleaner you made(still haven't found it). I see this is a different truck than what you started with. Great story about the way you got it. What an outstanding job you have done. Everything is right.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
Thanks Kevin...I checked out your blog, you have a lot going on. Since nobody leaves comments on your blog, I left a remark under your dual snorkel air cleaner, with a question.

Re: My 63 farm truck build thread
I converted to power steering today.
I used a REZ Engineering bracket kit from Classic Parts. They come powdercoated in an ugly red color so I stripped the old powder and recoated it in silver vein with clear. Crank pulley off a 72 truck... I powdercoated and resealed a 72 model pump and bracket set... You have to shorten the column since the power box is longer than the old manual box. I did it a different way than REZ recommended. 69-72 truck intermediate steering shaft... Cut the last 4 inches off of it, bead blast and drill 6 holes for plug welding. This end is larger than the 63 steering shaft. It slides snugly over the 63 shaft. Power box installed... The welds on the steering shaft. Like I said above, the cut off end of the 69-72 shaft slides snugly over the end of the original shaft where I cut it shorter. I gave it 6 nice hot plug welds and a solid lap weld around the end. And before anyone gives me any rash about welding on steering components, I have been a certified welder for a long time.
