Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
Well guys, I have emailed Nate and posted elsewhere but I figured I'd give you something semi-interesting to discuss.
Goal is to lay out a 62 LWB with a 63+ frame on air. Front will be the complete PB setup. Options are Rear drop setup using PBs Trailing arm "kit"(all PB parts like notch etc...) Rear drop setup using PBs 4 link kit I would automatically assume the 4 link is better but I have been wrong before. Will be a daily driver including the ND winters(focus on the suspension, not the winter affecting air ride) so any "extra" ground clearance is a plus. Big wheels are on the list of to do, I figure about 29" tire diameter. Most everything I have figured out so stick with the rear suspension differences. Thanks a ton guys! What would you do? |

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
I have been following yours from the start, love it. Yours and a few others have been my main inspiration.
I guess my main question is, suspension performance, which is better? Price wise they are close enough for my budget. Last edited by Ghostwhite; 07-01-2010 at 11:50 AM. |

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
OK GOT ya.I hope to have mine on the road soon. But i went with what I did because i started something and the trailing arms fit what i stared.I would have loved the 4 link but had already started.I have heard that the 4 link rides great .Havent heard much on the trailing arms but I will but a review up when i get it on the road.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
Both setups are legit thats for sure, I had already planned on the T arm setup but now that I have more time and budget, makes me wanna be sure of which I want. I know the 4 link has the advantage of sides but that alone is not enough of an advantage for me

Factory truck arms ride great w/bags as well.... PB's set-up won't ride worse.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
hey scoti has any one confirmed that a 12" wide wheel will fit with the trailing arm setup yet? I have this setup on my 69 and the numbers don't look good. I wish i had a couple of wheels so i could see for sure with different back spacing. It is going to be close....

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
I did try and confirm it with nathan but he couldn't say for sure. I didn't mean to upset anyone, the cost of wheels is way to high to mess up and i didn't want to wait. I guess i will be waitting till i can check for myself.
Thanks Ray Last edited by lowdownstar; 07-06-2010 at 06:35 AM. |

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
Ray,... can you do your measuring with a stock 15" steel wheel (with no tire installed)?
I have the Percy's wheel tool that I just recently purchased here on the board. I can send it to you if you need it. (I may sell it actually) I like my homemade backspace tool much better anyway.

Re: Dropmember Rear 63-72 Spy Pic
Ray I have the Percy's tool that I would sell. ($35 plus shipping) PM me if you are interested.
The "homemade tool" that I show in the picture,... is made from plate steel The tool has two bolt patterns is drilled into it. (5x4.75 and 5x5). The different length threaded rods, represents the wheel width. (11" rod for a 10" wide wheel ,for example) This tool has threaded holes spaced in the arm for 15", 18" and 20" wheels. It works great. You bolt the tool to the rotor or rearend. This allows you to rotate it 360 degrees to check for interference. Up front you can turn the wheels and rotate to check for any problem areas. The only thing it won't do,... is check tire height. But I do that with a tape measure. When we measured 72BlckButy's truck for wheels I planned on using this. But Nate kept his truck a 6-lug truck,... so I had to make another tool that has the 6x5.5 pattern on it. It's not hard to build, if you have an accurate way to drill the bolt patterns. I used a mill at work. Sorry to hijack this thread way off track.
