Re: Historical/ This I know
Seat belts 58 to 62 and 63 had the same chrome buckle with a sticker added with Chevrolet Crest. Supplied to Chevrolet by the Irving Airchute Co. IBC Model # 5000, same as the passenger car rear seatbelts. 62 and earlier had a courser webbing than the 63 on up. 64 buckle had a Chevrolet Crest cast onto it and were painted I would assume same color as the webbing, black?

Re: Historical/ This I know
There was a thread like this back in october/november of 2008 that had all this info and then some. I think 62prostreet might have started it. Mabey a mod could combine the two threads for us. It used to be a sticky but it went bye bye.

Kelsey Wheels 1960-1966
There has been some discussions of original wheel sizes and offsets. A copulation of what came on the trucks.

Re: Historical/ This I know
there are a couple different ways, the easiest is to go to the pic you want to post in your picasa album (or any other hosting site or any pics online), right click on the pic you want to add to the post, click on this little thing paste the pic location into the window that pops up and press enter, now your pic is in the post.
the other way is to click go advanced, then click the little paperclip it will open a window that will allow you to upload from your computer, but if the pics are too big it will not let you upload them, once you have uploaded all the pics you want (limit 5) click the paperclip agian and click insert all, then you can go in the post and put text between the pics

Re: Historical/ This I know
you have to pick one image...
like this here I left off the last bracket so you could see how it looks [IMG]http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jlNKkl-rSbc/SlZu5HGyLqI/AAAAAAAAAv4/GUgsNCGpPuo/s720/image0-4.jpg[/IMG just add the bracket back and you get the image

Re: Historical/This I know/60-66 Model Changes
Someting I always wanted to know:
Why does the new model year start in September of the previous year? answer: In the early days of automobiling in America, open cars and poor travel conditions precluded winter motoring. Manufacturers displayed samples at the winter auto shows and took orders for spring and summer delivery.

Re: Historical/This I know/60-66 Model Changes
Vernski:
In changing your rear end ratio, you have to order parts for a Dana 44. They were very popular rear ends, but they are different than the Chevies used. The Dana 44 is a 10 bolt rear vs. the Chevies that were 12. Regards, Steve New Orleans |

Re: Historical/This I know/60-66 Model Changes
Hi Vernski, if/when you decide to change ratios bear in mind there is a carrier break between 3.73 and 3.92. Anything 3.92 and lower (4.09, 4.27, 4.56) will require the same carrier. If you want a more highway friendly gear 2.70-3.73 you'll need the other carrier. They both fit in the same case, so you can switch up and down and still keep the same axle housing.
These are very popular and available from many applications including Jeeps, some later model 4 wheel drive Chevys, and a lot of Ford trucks. When I switched from my original 3.92 to a 3.08, they used the gear set and carrier from the front end of a Chevy Blazer. I subsequently went back to 4.09 gears and had to change the carrier again. There are a lot of aftermarket gear sets available but the OEM gears are generally the quietest and easiest to set up. Also, fyi - at least for 1960 the GMC 1/2 short step model came with the Dana 44 and coil springs. This might prove helpful for someone wanting a Dana 44 in a same year Chevy truck. |
