Re: Greg65 build thread

Today I thought I would sand the old paint off of my fenders to get ready for some bodywork. I knew the truck had been painted a few times before I bought it. Now It started out light blue and white, then red, then black, and then white when I bought it. That was expected, the gallon on bondo in the passenger fender was not. I much as I hate to it might be time to start looking a reproduction fenders.

You're so lucky. I bet driving those supercars don't compared to driving those cars we drove at the racing school. It don't seem like 10 yrs ago, time flys.. Well the truck is coming along well. I'm looking for a decent 88-up bench seat for the 72 let me know if you see one. Keep me posted on the build. Later.

Thanks for the parts, maybe I can return the favor in the future. If you need anything for yours give me a call and I will see if I have it laying around.

The Nascar school was great but for me the supercars have my vote. If I had the seat you would be welcome to it. I will keep an eye out for one.

Re: Greg65 build thread

Today I got some of the holes in my firewall filled. I'm trying to learn how to weld again. Not as easy as I remember. Everything takes practice. I still have some grinding to do. Late this afternoon I went and started bringing home Evan's new project. It is a 1972 GMC cab sitting on a 72 swb frame. We got a ton of parts with it. Will try to get pictures tomorrow.

Re: Greg65 build thread

I have not done much to the 65 lately. My neighbor offered me a deal on his project so that has consumed most of my time. Ever tried putting two horses in a one horse stall? I need more room. Anyway it was a great deal for what I got. For some reason I forgot to take pictures of the of the truck before putting it in the back of the basement. The lighting is poor where it is sitting or I would post pictures of it. Here are a few pictures of the first load of parts.

Re: Greg65 build thread

alright I got my son's project in good enough shape for storage. One piece that I need for it a drag link for disc brakes. I have a couple of leads but would really like to find one in driving distance. Here are a couple pictures as it sits now. But for now i'm done with it for awhile. I can start working on my 65 again. Next up is a drivers side door skin and two fenders.

Re: Greg65 build thread

I haven't done much to the 65 in awhile. Friday I went and picked up a 15x8 rally wheel so Evan's truck would have matching wheels. We can now take that ugly alm. 15x10 saw blade wheel off. Friday I also went out to Tim's(uncle on the forum) house and picked up a drag link for a disc brake set up. If this keeps up I will have to start a build thread for my eight year old. Lately his truck is getting more attention than mine.

Re: Greg65 build thread

This weekend I planned on working on the cab so I loaded it up on my trailer and headed to my brother in laws(Tim). Somewhere in the ten minute commute Tim sold his VW bus project to a guy in Easley S.C. After unloading my truck and putting the bus on the trailer we were off. Afew hours later we were there. Here are a couple shots after arriving in Easley.

This was sitting next door. So while Tim unloaded the bus I had to sneak a few shots.

Re: Greg65 build thread

It has been three months since my last post. Today I got some sanmdblasting done. We started on the inner fenders and grille mounting panel and finished with a few smaller pieces. The more we blasted on the panel and inner fenders the more holes we found from rust. Trying to decide between fixing what I have or buying new ones. Something to sleep on.

Re: Greg65 build thread

Ok football season is about to wind down for my eight year old so maybe I can atleast look at the 65. Practice three nights a week and a games on Saturday take up most of my time. For the next six months there is nothing on my calander so excuses right. I did get a few things blasted and primered last week. One of the things I need to decide on is to paint these pieces, inner fenders, and radiator support gloss or semi-gloss black. Right now I'm leaning toward the semi-gloss black.

Thanks Alan. I still have not decided on a interior color yet. Not sure to paint it the same as the exterior, a nice gray, or the original fawn.

Any progress on Shannon's cab?

Re: Greg65 build thread

I got a little done to the truck last week. After sanding for a few nights I figured out that blasting would be alot faster and easier. Looking back I should have taker pictures of before I started and after the five coats of paint was removed. Maybe I can do that on the other side. All in all the left bed side is in prett good shape. Today we removed the bed and put it on the dolly to maker it easier to work on. Next up buying the new front sheetmetal.
