Wow, aren't you like fourteen? When I was your age I was probably twice your size, lol. Nice work though, your truck is coming along great. Keep up the good work.

Great progress Kelvin.
An ambitious project for you and your dad! Enjoy the process and the time with your pops- it will mean a lot to you the rest of your life! I used to live near Longview in Clarksville City, right off of george richey road just west of White Oak, tx. I miss the pines and hills of ETX! Keeping an eye on your progress! |

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build
Well we went to Turkey Drag in Tyler yesterday. We walked around and took some pictures and met a board member, Moostifer and got to look at his truck. We also ran into another member who is also a neighbor, barnold and we got to see another members truck in person, Hazel (N2BILLET). That truck is SO much nicer in person.
Well we got some ideas and it got Korbin's blood pumping to work in his. We came home and cleared out the garage to work on his frame. I had cut out the main parts for his C notch with a plazma a week or so ago. I cleaned the edges up with a grinder while Korbin worked on the inside of the frame where we did the front crossmember work. He had to make a few welds on the inside of the frame. When he finished that and I gave my blessing on the welds, we started on the rear C notch. We got both side plates on the frame on both sides and had to call in a night. Had to stop to clean out the garage so that Mom could park inside since it was going to start raining. We it is still raining and we have not gotten any pictures yet. Maybe we can later when Korbin gets back from his student council meeting that he is at now.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build
Well we got to spend some time on this one last night and today. We have a new machine at work and I played around with an idea I had seen on another web site. I came up with a notch for the drive shaft on the crossmember right behind the cab.
Here it is in the flat... after a little hand forming and welding by Korbin, we have this... Here it is sitting on the crossmember before we cut it... We got the top side of the C-notch done also, I will let Korbin post that work. I also got to spend a few moments on my truck and it rolled outside on its own wheels since moving into the garage..

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build
We got quite a bit more done last night, welded/bent the top half of the notch boxing into place.
done to both sides i did all welds after church we cut the notch out, used a sawzall half of the time and a cutting torch half of the time( the torch cuts were done by my old man, and they aint very pretty. we will be gone all of next weekend but after that i will be off for 2 weeks for Christmas hopefully we can get the bottom half of the notch boxing welded in. the top halve will be smoothed for looks. and scottco, that's super nice of you and i would take it in a heartbeat, but thats a little far away and its a little far away

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build
Yea, my torch cutting skills stink. Where I cut will ground anyway so it did not need to be perfect. Some of it will covered with some plating we are going to do for strength.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build
good work guys, waiting to see what your bed will look like. notches and diff holes only or big notch cover....love the crossmember notch...it looks like plenty of clearance...the frame notches will hit way before the crossmember will....love the father/son build

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build
we measured and if we raised it 4 inches we would have like a 1/2 an inch of clearance or somethin like that. it should look pretty sick

Man, I must say that I am proud of you and your dad for your work on this truck...Keep up the great job and get it done in time for you to drive. I wish I had built a truck with my oldest son, maybe he wouldn't have gotten into so much trouble....
Keep up the effort and keep us posted. I am loving your truck and I am also thankful for guys who will help kids get these kind of deals for building a truck! |
