Re: Project: Turbo 250
Well I just got the the bell housing back from the machine shop got it welded up cause the starter tab had broke off. I also dropped off my turbo manifold to have it counter bored and to have the center divider milled out of it. I will get that back tomorrow. Everything is on schedule to pick up my rear end and head and camshaft this sat. from Tom Lowe. I had him set the rear up with an eaton posi. And he did all the porting and head work for me. I was told that I will have the engine back in my hands next week! Which means I can get going on the final assembly and paint on the engine!!!!

Re: Project: Turbo 250
Well I ended up braving the snow and ice storm tonight and made the normally 2 hour trip one way to Tom's place in Dysart and picked up my rear. He rebuilt the posi with new gears kevlar composite clutches, 400lb springs, 10ga sideplates and I ended up putting in 3.07 gears instead of the 2.76. I also picked up the head, it looks great and am really happy with the work he has done. 70 cc chamber 1.94/1.60 valves, and enough spring for .550 lift at 6500rpm. Although I went with the smaller cam for .495 of lift which means more rpm but I think i will cap her off at 6 grand.

Well everything for the engine comes home today! Just have to wait for my pushrods to get made before I can assemble, but otherwise she will be seeing some paint this weekend! Hopefully I can get the trans painted up too!

Can't wait! Guess I'll have to wait on the pics to see what color you went with on the bellhousing and transmission!

Re: Project: Turbo 250
I really like your build, but was wondering if there was any particular reason you went with the 250 rather than doing the same with a 292. Seems like there would be quite a bit more power potential. Is there a difference in the blocks or cranks that make it a weaker choice? Or was it just to use the engine you had?

Re: Project: Turbo 250
I had the 250 already from the truck as it was the original motor to the vehicle. I am still a full time graduate DPT student with a limited budget as school is hitting me up for just over $30,000.00 per year in tuition. And I am trying to keep my build to right around the 5-6 grand total build cost. Once I buy paint It will be really close to that. The 292 is a stronger engine over all and would make more power. However, I will make plenty of power with the 250 and get a little better fuel economy.
