Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build

Glad to see this is going to get completed...Still planning to sell it when done or will you keep it as the shop hauler?

It is back in the shop and currently getting some layout marks before getting cut apart.
I will be following Mike's surgery directions but I am going with slightly different proportions and I will only be cutting my frame in the rear even know I am shortening the wheel base as well. The plans are for a 4 link of some design for the rear to be decided on at a later date. Since I am only going to shorten the WB by 9 3/4" their is no real reason for me shorten the center of the frame when I can do it all on the back end. This will also eliminate the need mods to the floor under the second row seat.

First step is going to be cutting the rear wood floor out so I can gain access to remove tubs, tire well and misc braces. Then body slice and dice time will begin. Pic's to follow but not allot because I think Mike did such a great job documenting his their is no reason to do it twice since I am following his as well for parts of this next process.

Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build

Not to bad for one days work. I shortened the wheel base 9 3/4" and brought the wheel wells up the same. Next will be to mark and cut the rear of the body off then shorten the frame 19 3/4". This will give me a rear over hang 2" longer than a short bed. I think with the wheel base this will look the best.

Looking good. My bet is that you end up keeping it . How you gonna let go of a 4 door 67-72 Tahoe unless the money is outrageous?

Looks good from here! So you just moved the crossmember forward and cut the frame off in the back? Are you still planning to notch the frame or not?

Re: LFD's 4dr Burb Build

Proportions look perfect. That's the only way I'd have a Burb if it became a Tahoe...they look so much better IMHO. I know many love them full size and I'm sure the storage is awesome, but a bit too long to me.

Yes I did it this way because I will be running all new front and rear suspension and a large notch to get it way down.

Yes the storage was great but it still has plenty. If all works out I will have a third row of suitcase seats, second row bench out of a newer Tahoe and front buckets out of the same.

Thanks guys!
My wife (and I) want to check into re skinning the roof with a new flatter one off a different vehicle maybe with ribs or something. So I will get some dimensions and start roaming the parking lots

I think that sounds like a great idea. THe ribs will add strength and yet another subtle touch to set it apart.
