Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project
good call. i had some left over filler while taking care of some other stuff, and used it to plug that hole this weekend.

Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project
ok, so here's a teaser post. got a lot done up at my parents place this weekend, and lots of pics. However, i left my USB cable for my camera at my folks house, so pics will have to wait until tomorrow when i get to work.
Here's the run down of what got done. Friday night was SUPER productive. Saturday and Sunday were still productive, but it was a lot of small stuff. Friday night: 8pm - start pulling the front clip 11:30pm - clip is off and we started on getting the engine ready to be pulled in the morning. 1:15am - cracked first beer (only 3 in the fridge) 1:25am - 2nd wind came, and we decided to pull engine, but we needed more beer 1:30am - quick run to the gas station for a 12 pack 3:00am - engine / tranny was sitting on the floor 3:15am - took some cool pics of the cross member smashing a "beer can pyramid" 3:30am - sleep Saturday swapped out the seat in my uncles 90's step side. Got the bed pulled, flipped, and sitting on a small trailer. we then moved it into the garage, leaving room for the truck. I mocked up the gas tank and realized i had the wrong sending unit. A call to lockDoc and my brother lurch115 revealed the surplus tank was for a 73-86 truck. since i ordered it over a year ago, i forgot. oh well, o'rielly's will have the right one in for me tomorrow. I did get the hard line run down the frame rail. also made a couple "fixes" to the air lines and wiring since the bed was off. now the air lines won't stick out past the roll pan like they do in the pics above. The rest of saturday, until 1:30am was spent sanding, and sanding, and more sanding. My dad now has pink dust over everything in his garage. he's REALLY excited about that Sunday Pulled the seat and got the tank out. nothing exciting here, other than the fact that my wife actually helped me with this part. although there are no pics to prove it, i swear i'll get pics next time she helps. i have a verbal commitment from her that she'll help do some sanding next weekend. Oh, i did get the gas filler hole welded up, grinded smooth, and covered in some metal to metal. then my wife made me come home.... 26 days until it must be back on the road...

Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project
i slowed down on the pics cause i left the camera in the house, but i got a lot of sanding done on the bed and cab last weekend. no pics of that.
so that leads us to the plans for this weekend. i picked up some epoxy primer, and some high build primer today. I also got a bunch of shinny parts for the 283 and a gasket kit that lurch is doing this week. another box from LMC came with more shinny parts for the grill... the goal this weekend is to: go to the drag races friday night with lurch's 84 short box plumb the gas tank (i got the sending unit today) sand some more fill some rust craters in the hood take the truck to the car wash and spray the frame spray some chassis paint on the frame spray some epoxy primer on the clip spray some high build on the clip and the body work i've done block those areas cut holes in the bed and mod some bed floor rails to clear the pumpkin and the air tank maybe drop the engine in on sunday if we have time.

these were taken by my brother this week during the "refresh" he's doing on the 283. oh, and the crank gear... he took off with his fingers. pretty scary IMO

Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project
today i finished all of the body work on the clip. i have a little bit of sanding left, but i'm calling it done. the gas tank also got mounted and plumbed today.
tomorrow i'm going to be finishing the remaining sanding. i'm planning to load it up on the trailer and take it down the car wash to spray off the frame in the morning. the oil leaks i've had coated the bottom of the truck pretty bad, so it'll be nice to get it clean again. we will be spraying etch primer followed by some high build primer on the clip. I hope to have time to block it as well before i head back home. the motor will be done next week as well. got some new shinny parts for it this weekend, along with an oil pump and new balancer. fyi, parts for a 283 are tough to get at a parts store. paint is scheduled next saturday. starting the morning with a sealer coat over the whole thing, then paint, then clear. we'll leave the truck at the booth over night and pick it up in the morning on sunday. motor will get dropped in on sunday and hopefully fired up. the core support will also probably be put in on sunday as well. the following weekend all loose ends will be tied up and i expect to be driving it home on the 25th. if i have to, i'll take a day off to finish putting things back together. the following weekend is the midwest meet. wish me luck |
