Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

WOW!!! Gee I read this initial thread but after I just re-read the additional pages this thing has really taken off. Put me in for a PayPal donation if it gets that far. Of all the opinions and they are all great...I like the idea of collecting $$$ from those who wish to donate and give the $$$ to Dawn as a gift from this sight. This way she can spend the $$$ in the way she wishes. As far as the truck...if she wants to get it fixed up maybe we can get some of our vendors to donate parts along with our cash donations. There are lots of possibilities. What we need is one person to spearhead this project. Maybe there is and I missed the name. JMHO

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

How bout a TN folks get-together at her place? I'm in SW Va, and I could def make the drive. I know she has heard from a couple members who emailed her direct and she really appreciated it. Anyone want to email her and ask her if a mini-meet at her place would be something she'd be okay with? Last I checked, she still had everything for sale. I just put another Craigslist ad in Knoxville for her this morning. Here's the ad.
Her direct email address is: dawn.martin33@yahoo.com

Dear Bill:
Hi. Hope you and your family are doing well. I know your busy so I'll try and make this as short as I can. I contacted some towing companies in the area but had no luck. The only responses I'm getting these days to the ads are the foreign scam/cashiers checks ones but I'm not giving up. I haven't heard from any of the forum members lately and I'm kinda worried. I hope everyone is ok there too. I've actually decided to suck it up and quit pestering all of you for a while and try and do something for myself. I gathered up all our repair manuals and have been studying them for the past few days. Two of the trucks already have motors in them and I'm going to try and get them going first. I know I'll have a better chance at selling them that way. I learned some stuff over the years and maybe the manuals can help fill in the blanks. My girls are all for helping me do it, and knowing you guys are there if I can't figure something out(I promise I won't make a habit of it) has given me the courage to try. I own the trailer I told you about, so I'm not going to lose it or anything and the lot rent isn't as high there as some places, so if I sell them soon, that will be great, but if not, I can start all over again with trucks that run and I'll have a much better chance that way. Again, thank you for everything you've done for me. I'll keep in touch and let you know how it's going, and I still plan on joining you all in your forums soon. God Bless and take care.
Dawn

I wrote this a few days ago and I also wrote you about sharing my circumstances with the other forum members. I shouldn't have asked you not to let them know everything. I don't believe any of them would pass judgement on me for what I have or don't have. I didn't mean to sound like I'm ashamed of living in a "trailer" because I'm not. I'm proud of my little place here even if it's not very "perty" right now, and I'm definitely blessed with beautiful kids and grandbabies that love me and I feel very lucky to have all of you on the 67-72 site. Even though I haven't met any of you in person or even been able to join you online yet, I TRULY feel a sense of relief and inner peace I haven't felt in a really long time knowing that you all are there for me with advice or to answer any questions I may have with genuine concern for me and I am very grateful, so please feel free to let everyone know why there's a time issue and all and maybe it will trigger someone to think of something else I can try. Thanks again. Dawn

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

If that does not make a tear swell up in your eye then something is wrong.

I would love to help this lady and what we have discussed up until now is great, but we really need to get off our arses, stop talking, and do something. I think a good first start would be to just have a get together at this ladies place. Help her fix some of those trucks, clean up her property, etc.

I do not know who first contacted her or who has been in touch with her, but I would think that person needs to setup a paypal account and start taking up donations. I'll talk with my local Tennessee board about it and see if they would be intersted in organizing the get together. We are having a meet and eat somewhere around that area the end of this month anyway, so we/I might be able to pay her a visit. If not, I am pretty sure we have members that live near her.

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

Like has been said by many on this board..."If someone can take the bull by the horns and get this organized and a fund started"...I will make a donation by PayPal. I also have a set of new rockers that I would donate towards one of the trucks if that would help. Although this site has many many of those who are willing to help in various ways sometimes it is hard to get the many to work as one. This is another great cause that is worth our effort.

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

I PM'd Liz about help on the PayPal issue about a week or so ago, and she feels that someone needs to meet Dawn face-to-face to verify everything is legit first. Do we have someone close enough to do this? I'm sure once that's done, Liz will ratchet up the support. Anyone close by?

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

Dear Bill:
Hi Sorry I didn't see this till now. I've been trying to get some OSB board on the half of that trailer I saved for a storage shed. I've been working on it for over a week now. It's one of those things where I get frustrated because I know what I need to do, but I can't physically do it. I knew the rain would come sooner or later, and man is it here now! Oh well.
I haven't heard from anyone, but I think it's pretty much out of the way to come by here from Nashville to Kingsport isn't it? As much as I would love a visit from some of you guys, I would feel awful if I caused anyone any inconvenience!! I'll be ok. If you can reach Trai, please tell him not to worry about me. I live 15 minutes from the strip where all the car shows are held, and if some of you ever came here for that, I would love a visit then. I'll try again to join the site soon because I've put a lot of thought into how my life's going, and I've decided that I want to donate my trucks and parts to the 67-72 site because I know they will be put to good use, and no one will scrap them. I can't stand to see them sit out there and rust any longer. I was thinking if a member needs something, and if I have it, they can send me a check to cover shipping it, or come get it if they are close enough. I have a SWB 67 in the garage that I could never part with, so I need to keep a few things for her, but everything else is here if you guys need it. Thanks for everything you've done for me Bill!
Take care.
Dawn

Please let me know if there is anything that I can do from Northern VA. I have read this entire thread and I can't help but feel like I need to do something...I would love to get to Tennessee but due to military obligations, I can't. Again, please let me know how I can help.

I just got off the phone with Dawn. She is a very nice lady, and I can't tell you how touched she is about everyone's concern for her and her situation. I am going to stop by her house this coming Friday or Saturday on our way back from Pigeon Forge, TN.

Good luck with the wife, that would be great. There's some pics of her trucks and parts here in the "trucks for sale" area. And, here's the slideshow I made up for the Craigslist ads:

Hi Bill. Mu goodness, do I need your advice! I got a call from Trai yesterday and he is planning to come by my house either Friday or Saturday. He is such a nice guy! He said he wanted to take some pictures of the trucks and parts and possibly get them back on ebay for me. He's taking his family to Dollywood and that's about 15 minutes from me, so I'm relieved he's not going out of his way. I have a problem though. Maybe you can help. I got an email from another member right after Trai called. He lives near Morristown which is about an hour away. He has to talk it over with his wife first, but he may want to buy everything. The thing is that I offered to donate everything and I would never go back on my word, but I am so grateful to Trai and "MotorSeven", and I don't know what to say to them. Can you help me? Thanks.
Dawn

HI Dawn. we all heard about Trai's visit. That's great. And also MotorSeven's idea. Just my opinion, I'm sure everyone would be thrilled if MotorSeven bought your trucks. Nobody expects you to donate them. That just "ain't right." Like taking money from you. It was a great gesture on your part, but these are your trucks, and you need to profit from them. And they'll be going to a good home. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you.

Yeah, I am all for someone buying all these trucks and parts if they can swing it. She mentioned to me about giving them away to whoever needed them. That was a nice gesture, but I think we can get them on ebay and get her some money out of this stuff if someone doesn't come in a buy it all up beforehand.

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

I took a bush hogging job(25ac & it has to be done by Sat). I have another job hanging roof trusses today, so between the two i will have banked some $ towards Dawns trucks/parts. Man, this "retirement" is brutal..........!
IF someone else steps up to the plate to buy her stuff that's fine. I can appreciate the "why", but i just don't think that she is in a position to "donate". Those pic's of the parts look like that alone will be a full time job...sorting/packaging/answering questions/selling/shipping. Besides, she is going to need some money to fix up her '67, unless one of the TV show things come thru.

I was referring to donations. Does this mean we need to collect donations on our own? I have no problem doing that, but I just wanted to keep this as legit as possible and go through the board.

On another note I am heading out here in a few minutes to Pigeon Forge. I'll take some pictures when I stop by Dawn's and post them back here. Have a good weekend.

Man...I have not spent enough time on this forum. I just found this thread. although i was supposed to be at a meeting an hour ago, I couldn't stop reading the posts. It would be awesome if we could max this lady's profits out on those trucks.

I wish one of those shows would respond, this tops most of the truck rebuild shows I have watched. Does anybody have a high level contact with GM ?

How awesome if the Chevy Truck Division stepped up to the plate. They went bonkers over that guy who put a million miles on his Chevy. Man, you guys are awesome foe stepping up to the plate on this. Count me in on the PayPal account.

Now I know why Chevy/GMC has been my vehicle of choice. The people are the BEST !

Now I gotta tell my wife her Honda Accord goes and she better start picking out a Chevy...

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

Ok..after posting the last post, I thought of one person who seems to care about the average American and appears to have high level contacts with GM/Chevy. So, I took a long shot and sent the following email:
------------------------------------------------
If you could get this to Sean, it would be great !

Sean,

This is an example of the "real" world out here that the "Liberals" refuse to acknowledge really exists.

The "Bitter Americans that cling to their guns and bibles” are hard at work trying to help another “bitter” American. ( OK sarcasm intended) Please have someone, or preferably yourself read this posted thread that has just become (for me) a symbol of what the true America, and the True American, is all about.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=298883

This thread starts out slow, as it wasn't meant to be, what it became.

I know this might seem trivial in the whole great scheme of things, but sometimes these little things are what keeps us “Bitter Americans” going.

You have connections high within the GM Chevy/GMC hierarchy. Maybe, just maybe, they would be willing to help a lady who’s love for their product, was only surpassed with her love of her family.

Thanks for all you do.

By the way, my Daughter is currently in her second week of boot camp ( Fort Leonard Wood MO) becoming ARMY strong !

I, as a proud parent of a Military Daughter, appreciate ALL that you and your Army of friends and supporters do for our Military Members.

Take Care,

William Koch
Tucson, AZ

In case you aren't familiar with the Sean Hannity show, the "Bitter American" theme is off his show regarding the liberal's leader's comments about the true Americans. Anyway, just thought a long shot wouldn't hurt.

C'mon people rack your brains.....somebody else has to have an idea/contact/thought process to make this work.

Maybe you know somebody, who knows somebody who knows somebody. They say we all are only 6 degrees away from being related..or something like that......

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

Guys let me say how moved I am. I just bought my first 68 a few months ago (Always been a sport compact guy I’m 28 so don’t hold it against me) and join the site to find parts and glad I did for this post alone. I work for Dee Zee a large truck accessories company and I’ve email one of our Reps down south who has been in the industry for a long time to see if we can help contact some of the shows you have mentioned. I will continue to try and put something together on my end and let you know. Just got off the phone with our rep and He'll call the guys at Gearz tonight and see what they say.

Thanks

Josh
