Re: 67 SWB 4x4
What prep was needed to shoot the Raptor Liner on the aluminum tank? Just scuff and shoot? Also, how much does one kit cover?

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
To shoot Raptor you need to have the metal in epoxy primer. Otherwise it might chip or scratch through and rust.
We actually use a pretty good process: Sandblast all metal to white - no shading or nothing. Within 30 minutes shoot with DP90, a epoxy primer. Let sit in sun for a day, or indoors for a week. (Our temp is routinely 100+ surface temp for black primer) Do any body work repriming if you go to metal. Shoot black parts with Acrlic Enamel Black: Flat, Egg shell, semi-gloss, gloss. For colored parts we base coat clear coat. You can shoot Raptor at any time during the process, but paint will not stick to it very well, and does not make sense to do that. You can get clear Raptor and have it tinted to match the BC color. Will not have the gloss, and might look a little different. Box comes with three cans and a gun, $ 100.00 A box did the 67 4x4 cab bottom, both side of front inner fenders & rear fender extensions, bottom side rear fenders, gas tank, bed bottom. Pull tape before it dries or you will look goofy with tape on it for ever.........

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
Man, I tell you what, those pics on the TOTM do not do this truck what it deserves! Absolutely amazing job on this truck guys! I saw so many things on the truck I really, really, like. For instance the red doors with the red door panels, all the attention to detail, and that color combo with the 3 projects is so awesome! Those classified pics would just put it over the top IMO.

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
Could not get the oil leaks on this thing to stop.
(Most my fault) Finally had to break down and replace the canister with a Perma Cool kit. A/C is charged, not quite perfect but getting close. I now have a leak in the steering box and will replace it this weekend maybe. Sure is fun to drive though. Especially when you come to a jacked up F350 or Dodge.

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
I noticed that your steering shaft doesn't have a rag joint, but a u joint instead. Is that an OEM '67 4x4 thing or aftermarket?

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
I am interested in this u-joint set up as well, I assume it is an aftermarket joint, but is it the stock steering shaft?

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
Its aftermarket, some say having two u joints on the shaft gives you sort of a vibration when turning the steering wheel.

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
It is a Borgeson part.
I shorten the steering column almost 2" in all my trucks. The deep dish wheel takes up about 3/4" of it. So you are 1-1.5" shorter. It is a real challenge with a three on the tree. The U joint takes all the play out, not really a vibration issue, but all my stuff is new. On the 4x4 I used the Borgeson tube for the slip joint on the steering shaft. If I remember I will take a better picture of it. That gives me the crush zone like the original column, but a couple more inches longer. You don't have to do that, but a head-on with a solid shaft would be fatal.

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
Conroe, can you get the borgeson tube and ujoint at the local parts house, or do you order from a specific vendor.
Thanks.

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
I bought it direct.
The minimum is enough tube, roughly, 3' to do 2-3 trucks. You will need the diameter of the shafts, and the number of splines on the shaft, to get the right u-joint.

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
Amazing truck Conroe. The red and white combination work well with the conservative but beefy look of the truck. Your attention to detail was amazing and sets the bar high for the rest of us. Thanks for sharing your build with us brother.

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
Torch Red on GM white.
The lowered truck has a grey sealer, the lifted has a red sealer. The lifted truck has a deeper red, the lowered truck's red has a pop to it.

Re: 67 SWB 4x4
Cool, you know, I have looked at the torch red on the color charts and it is really hard to get an idea of how it will look on a real truck. I had thought I was going to go with Super red, or Chrysler's ToRed. But man this red is really nice.
