Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

From my understanding, if I wanted to run a set of center caps from a 2000s chevy, I would need to use the external thread lug nuts. Do the lugnuts from the new chevys bolt right on to the old trucks, or do I need to get some special aftermarket lugnuts?

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

I have a set of factory H2 Hummer wheels sitting in a corner in the shop. I need to pull these out and check the pattern. Someone might be able to use these on one of their trucks.

Those H2's will fit any 8-lug chevy from 67ish to 2010...i have them on my 2005, and am thinking about putting them on my 71 (stock 2500HD's on there now) when the rubber is low enough for "dry" traction only.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

Does anyone make a 17" or 18" steel 8 lug wheel that is, say, about 8" wide? I want to put a larger wheel on my 71 C20 and combine that with low profile tires and a 3/5 drop. I am painting the truck either the original dark green with a satin finish or black with the same finish. I want to paint the wheels the same color and then put chrome beauty rings and baby moons on. Just curious at this point.

Doug,

Where did you find those wide steel rims and the crome caps? I have been looking for a set of those for my Gmc Longhorn to put on the rear.

these are 94 or so Sub rims, 16 inch, ... they would look more vintage if painted white and the trims rings were removed.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

After market lugnuts. They have to have SAE standard threads to fit the old studs, and the metric thread on outside for the plastic locknuts that hold center cap on. Newer Chevies have metric studs. Also, are you planning to use these caps on older stock rims or the rims that go with the center caps. I think the lugnuts have different seat angles than old wheels have. Lugnutking on e-bay is where I got my lugs. Good luck.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

I just bolted up a set of the 2500HD wheels, I used the lugnutking lugs. I found out that the rear caps will not fit over the Dana 60, the axel hub sticks out too far. So to use the caps I have to add spacers behing the wheel (about an 1" worth), but then my studs wont be long enough, so I'll have to get long studs from ARP, and 1" thick spacers...the spacers will help to push the wheel out to be even with the body, but I just think I'll look for a different wheel.

I was thinking about trying to put a set on some Dodge rims from the 90s

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

i got these on mine (see my sig):

dont know what rims these are. But the tires are General Grabbers TA2 265/75/R16:

I dont like the way the centers look in the rear. I am looking for a solution, too make them look like the front centers of the rims (K20 got them locking mechanism in there).

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

I had a hard time deciding which rims to use on my pile but i went with these because I have never seen anybody else with them. I know the pic is bad and only shows the front but there 16's. 235-60 up front and 285-60 out back also how are you guys lowering your 3/4's without cutting springs or removing leafs?

I bought 71' 3" drop spindles from Airbagit.com to lower the front of mine with a 2" 1/2 ton drop spring. They bolted right in o problems, the alignment is done but havent driven it yet as the rear isnt completed. My rear is coil springs as well so just installed 5" 1/2 ton springs as well. I believe someone makes 3/4 ton drop springs if you are looking to keep the towing capacity. Not sure how the leaf sprung guys are doing it.

16.5" original rims with 8.75x16.5 tires. I wouldn't mind a slightly wider tire - but the options were limited to keep the height the same. Firestone Transforce (Goodyear makes the Workhorse...and then a small collection of off brand tires).
