Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
so what transmissions do they have in the trucks these days?
you mentioned it is a 5.3L from a 2008 truck. What trans is it? Do they have 5 speeds yet or what? I am behind the times. Cool project. -W |

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
It still has the 4 speed automatic (4L60E), I was trying to get the 6L engine out of a 2500HD with the 6 speed trans, but the yards wanted too much for it and I couldn't afford it...

Harness
We got the wiring harness back from Current Performance.
The fuse and relay center has a nice OEM look to it It looks like he used the factory split covering and adds where necessary. All the connections are labled and it has the ODBC II connector |

Re: Harness
What was the cost & turn-around time on this? Do you just tell them what options you want or do they have a list to choose from?

Re: Harness
They have the prices on their website (I am not sure is I can give them and the web site under the forum rules). I spoke to Jared and he walked me through the different options. I needed to tell him what tire size and gearing and I also opted for an extra serial line to run a factory gauge cluster or ODBC2 gauge if I wanted to in the future. It took 3+ weeks to get it done as I guess he has a backlog of work. I get the impression that the work itself only takes a day or two to complete.

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
As a couple people have asked and the moderators say it is ok... It was $625 (450 for harness and 175 for computer programming) and took about 3 weeks. Their website is http://www.currentperformance.com and it also has the prices. I know some people do their own as the info is out there on the web, but I like the quality OEM look CP does with the fuse/relay block and hopefully it will turn out to be plug and play. When I was looking for a vendor to do the harness, CP had a good reputation on some other boards...

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
I hope they paint your BB/MC. Are you going to get rid of the stock air intake?

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
I thought they are restrictive because of how it goes up into it to mount over the hoses. I have a 07 with the stock one and when you get on it you can hear it trying to breath.

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
Thanks guys! Well as for sound damping... I don't have the budget to do the interior (yet) so I will likely just do a carpet kit for now. I would love to do somthing like lizardskin but the stuff is out of budget (like a new cluster instead of my old digital...)

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
Home depot sells some stuff cheap that is supposed to be as good as dynamat or fatmat....Tony (LILRED66) used it in one of his trucks
