60-66 Nut

Re: ol Curt Progress

If I remember correctly they are quite expensive. I have installed them using a bolt about 2" long and a nut threaded onto the bolt. Then thread the riv-nut onto the bolt with a flat washer between it and the nut . Insert the riv-nut into the hole and then with two wrenches one on the bolt and one on the nut, turn the nut CCW until the riv-nut is compressed and fastened into the part.

Re: ol Curt Progress

I just used a lock washer and a nut. The real trick was getting my hand in there. I can be done. Did'nt even drop the nut or the washer.

Re: ol Curt Progress

Just got back in town this evening. Spent the weekend dog sitting for my daughter while she was in a wedding. As always, I got lots done at their house while I was there.
I had time to start working on some rear e brake cables. I was able to find those at NAPA for $15 each. This was considerably less that what I had found on the internet. I started the process of putting one on. During that process, I spotted a couple of frayed cables on the intermediate portion. You'd think I would know by now to jut replace them all!! I'm wondering if there is supposed to be some grommet where the cables go thru the frame. It looks like that would always be a wear point.

While I was grumbling to my neighbor in the garage about needing carpet samples to move forward with that part, my wife brought an envelope....samples!!
I picked the lighter color. It has a little more gold in it, which I feel will go with the seat and door panels.
They are pretty close, but the top one is the one I took.

I may have put an incorrect link in earlier. These are the guys I hope to use for the carpet.

Re: ol Curt Progress

I saw a pic int he shop manual that leads me to believe I was correct and there should be a grommet on each side where the cable goes thru the crossmember. Hopefully, they will come with the cable. I also found it at NAPA

Re: ol Curt Progress

I suppose I just measure the whole and go buy one that the cable will fit thru? I doubt I will be lucky enough to get it with the cable at NAPA.

Re: ol Curt Progress

My carpet came in today. I had to reorder my seat belts. I didn't realize they measure from the bolt hole to the end of the buckle. I just measured fro mend to end of the webbing.

I got my new ebrake cable hooked up on the rear drivers side tonight.

Hopefully some pics tomorrow. I set my camera down in the garage and accidentally broke the piece that holds the battery in. I used to have another camera just like this one, hopefully I can find it...if not there's always duct tape!

I also spent some hard earned money($600) that could have gone towards the truck on some new tires for my Silverado today. I thought, damn seems like I didn't have those tires very long. Actually, I only had them two years, but when I compared the mileage, I realized I had put 50K mile on that thing in the last two years. That was decent mileage for a set of tires.

Re: ol Curt Progress

that's not too bad, I have BFG AT's on mine and have put nearly 40,000 on them in the last 2 years, and still have about half the thread left. Really good tires

Re: ol Curt Progress

These were BFG Rugged Trail TA's. I could probably have driven them awhile yet, but I often pull a trailer and sometimes make interstate trips. I'm probably a little on the cautious side! I can remember my grandpas motto was to drive um till they pop! I can't make myself do that at todays' speeds!

Re: ol Curt Progress

Made some progress this weekend. I worked slow as I felt crappy with a sore throat all weekend, but made nice progress on interior. Good camera is still broken, so crappy cell pics.

Re: ol Curt Progress

Would'nt it work better to put the carpet in after you paint? I know you just wanted to make sure it fit. Or you just were'nt sure if you liked the color.

Paint?? Ohh yeah!! I figure it will be some time yet(months) before I'm ready for any paint. I might want to drive in luxury in the mean time!

Besides, the carpet is not glued down...

I'm the same way. Works getting in the way. I've been doing some deep thinking though. You need to slam that thing.

Re: ol Curt Progress

I have been busy with ol Curt lately. I have begun the painting process on much of it. I have most of the front clip done.....I know....I know, jam it then paint it all. But...I bought all the paint at once and have painted a few pieces in a nice paint booth while taking a class. Hopefully it will all match. I shake the can in a shaker for 10 minutes each time before using, so I think all will be well. I am ready to put some of it back together and for the life of me can;t find the pic I took of the headlight dimmer switch. Can anybody tell me which wire goes where on it?
