Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
McGaughys kits have the back of the spindle specially modified to accept a caliper adapter bracket. You could use any spindle, have it custom machined and have a custom caliper bracket made but McGaughys already has something put together.

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
Welp, mine are on and moving and stopping. The pedal pressure isn't what I was hoping for, but I may have a small line leak that I couldn't find while crawling around in the dirt. I'll be taking it to a friends shop to double check everything on the lift...with a concrete floor under it

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
^^^Exactly why I ended up with the stuff from McGaughy. I wanted the CPP stuff too, but couldn't get a matching rear. I bought the CPP kit at a swap meet, but ended up selling it to get the McGaughy stuff. I made good money on it

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
Well, I finally went to the boneyard and picked up a spare rear end. I even lucked out and got a 12 bolt. Anywhoo, Ive got the template laid out for the corvette calipers but I need to buy a set of calipers, or even 1 side. Anywhoo, the brackets wil be simple and cheap to sell once produced, but to get the ebrake.. the parts alone will cost about 250ish
I remember seeing a baer kit on a c-10... that was retarded looking. a 12" rotor with about (guessing) 2" of usuable rotor matched up to the old lt1 style ebrake bulit in caliper. Serioulsy looked like it was using 50% of the rotor. Atleast what I am working towards is a matching kit for the rears using real rear parts so ebrake could be an option. Anyway, Once I score a set or one side of corvette calipers I will start a seperate thread. Clint

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
I looked into those...but not for long. The front kit is MUCHO expensive...in the neighborhood of $2k+, and the rear is only 12.19" in diameter and $650-$850 depending on options. The front price doesn't include the spindle either. One more reason why I went with this McGaughy kit. I spend less than $1200 for everything shipped to my door, and other than just machining the rear axles, it was a very straightforward install. I would certainly like to have "cooler" looking calipers, but for the money...It can't be beat!

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
Those are the 16" brakes that KP (Chris Alston's Chassisworks) offers... can you say $4Gs for front only. We will be doing a build starting in a month or so that's getting these bad boys.

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
aggie91 I have looked hard at Wilwood as well as all the other name brands. Even Baer makes a good looking reasonable priced rear kit. Unfortunately the matching front kit gets really pricey on all of them.
The CPP kit is a real bargain compared to the other brands. If they were to make a matching 13" rear, I would go that way. Since they don't (yet), I am leaning toward the McGaughys combo.

![]() I would investigate selling a matching 13" rear kit for use w/that MCPV1 since it's adjustable. At least try a set for evaluation.

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
Anyone know a machine shop in Houston that could mill down axles, I will be searching yellow pages here shortly, but word of mouth is better IMO.

I have the 13" McGaughy kits on my '76 Blazer with the CPP M/C & p/v, and it works GREAT! It'll sling the snot out of your nose under hard braking, but no lock up

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
How well does the E-brake work. This is shows to be the best value 13/13 kit on the market. Is the e-brake functional, or just for show?

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
Danny- I respect your knowledge, but don't follow your theory with that as there are 12/12" or 13/13" kits out there. Granted most of those 13/13" kits have double or triple the amount of pistons per caliper so that may be the difference.
Let me know if you need a test truck. I'll be glad to dial in a 13" rear kit for you.

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
Just to clarify on the McGaughy kit, the front calipers are rather large 2 piston and the rears are a single piston set up. So the brake bias is there.

Re: Mcgaughys Big Brake Kit
To take that thought even further, look at the kits that Captain Fab is putting together. He is using D52 replacement calipers front and rear so you have the exact same size caliper and rotor.
