Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

Hi Captain. A quick question. I bought your kit last summer, and getting around to putting it in now. Does the kit include nuts and bolts for mounting the clutch master cylinder? I used a couple of 5/16 bolts that were in the kit, one had a unthreaded shoulder, the other was fully threaded and a bit shorter. There was only one 5/16 nut included. Lots of washers. Did I use fasteners intended for elsewhere?

A few other questions:

I am using a master cylinder off a 79 K10 I think. I am using a booster off a 1998 full size GM. They mount fine, will they work together properly?

I also have the proportioning valve off the 79 K10, is there a way to test it to see if it is in working order? Just pulled it off a truck in the junkyard.

I will add pics soon, but just wanted to comment on the very close tolerances between the bracket and the inner fender, between a full size GM booster and the clutch MC, and between the clutch MC and the firewall plug. I have the Wilwood 1" bore MC. Have you heard this before?

Thanks.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

There is one 5/16"-18x 1-1/4" bolt and one 5/16"-18 x 1-1/2" bolt that are both used to attach the clutch master to the firewall with the 3/8" spacer between the clutch master and the booster bracket. The 1-1/4" long bolt is used in the bottom hole and threads into the pivot block. The 1-1/2" bolt is used in the top hole with a nut and flat washer on the inside.

Yes the '79 master will work fine on the '98 booster. I do not know how to test a proportioning valve without connecting it and running brake fluid thru it. When bleeding the system, either gravity bleed it a while first, or bet the centering tool from POL to keep the internal valve from sliding over and cutting off flow to one circuit or the other.

Yes the clearances are a little tight. If I moved the clutch master closer to the brake booster/master, you would be limited to a smaller booster. The 3/8" clutch master spacer helps some with the clearance with the electrical plug.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

Thanks, that makes things clearer.

So, as long as brake fluid can be pushed through the valve, it should be OK? By gravity bleed, I assume you mean just letting fluid from the MC flow through the proportioning valve on its own? How long would you wait? Until you see brake fluid dripping out? Thanks again.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

Yes, gravity bleed until you get brake fluid from the bleeders on the wheel cylinders and calipers. If you just bleed the brakes by pumping the brake pedal, with no brake fluid in the lines, the proportioning valve will do it's job and block the circuit it sees as being 'open'. Then when you try and bleed that circuit, you will get very little to no fluid.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

Hi. Not sure if I should be posting in this thread, but I have a question about brake line sizes. 1961 GMC half ton, converting to disks in the front while converting to power brakes. Using the proportioning valve off the 1979 K10 I got the master cylinder from. I have the original lines from the MC to the proportioning valve, so I can measure the OD's of them.

My question: 3/16 lines to front discs? 1/4 line to rubber hose in back, then 3/16 to wheel cylinders?

Questions like this should be posted in the '60-'66 message forum instead of a for sale thread. To answer your question, you are correct.

Hello. Captain fab. I hope you enjoyed your vacation. Does this brake booster clutch master cylinder kit work on a 1980 C10?

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

No it will not. The firewall is completely different. That is why it is specified as for a '60-'62.

If you are wanting a hydraulic clutch all you need are the factory components for a '84-'86 C/K or a '87-'91 R/V truck.

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

I'm moving this question over from the wrong thread
This for sale thread is for the '63-'66 standard booster bracket. Here is the thread for the '60-'62 trucks with the hydraulic clutch.

http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=362375

You can not use a master cylinder designed for a disc/drum braking system on a truck that has a drum/drum braking system. You need a drum/drum master cylinder and the appropriate booster. With that booster you would have to use a master cylinder for a 1970 Buick Estate wagon with power brakes. Are you still using the original slave cylinder?

I just picked up an early 90's Booster and master cylinder setup from a Chevy 1500. Bolts measure 3 3/8x 31/2 so booster should be fine. Wondering if I can use the mc that is already on it or do I need a different mc. Also from reading previous posts it appears that I can eliminate the proportioning valve since it is drum/drum? Posted a picture of the booster assembly if that helps. Will get my order in as soon as I am sure I have the right parts. Thanks for your help,
Paul

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

After looking more closely at the mc it became apparent that it was for disc brakes so I will have to locate a different mc. Yes I do have the original slave cylinder.
In your earlier pictures you indicate that the booster can come from 1988-98 fullsize pickup. Which I believe what this booster is from. The only mc that would work with this booster is from a 1970 Buick Estate wagon? An earlier chevy truck mc wouldn't work?

Re: '60-'62 POwer Brake Booster Adapter Bracket With A Clutch

The '88-'98 booster has the short intermediate pushrod. With that booster you must use a master cylinder that is designed for the short intermediate pushrod. For a drum/drum braking system, the only master that I know of is the 1970 Buick Estate wagon power brake master. The '67-'70 truck master is designed for a long intermediate pushrod and will not work with the '88-'98 booster. You could use the booster and master cylinder for a '67-'70 truck. That is what I recommend for a drum/drum system.

Thanks for the additional information. Either use what I have as a core toward a 67-70 truck booster/master or find a 1970 Buick Estate wagon power brake master. The search continues....

You can simply purchase the 1970 Buick Estate wagon master cylinder at your local auto parts supply. The A1 Cardone number is 10-1363. O'Reilly's among others carry A1 Cardone parts

Can you tell if this is a Bendix or a Delco Moraine Booster? Two master cylinders are available for 1970 Buick depending on booster manufacturer.

You will want the 1970 Buick Estate wagon master cylinder with the shallow piston bore. That one is listed as for a Delco Moraine booster and is A1 Cardone 10-1363.

Sorry to be a nuisance- not familiar with these parts at all. You are saying that I need the Delco Moraine Booster Cardone 10-1363 because it is a short shaft and will work with my booster whether it be a Bendix or a Delco Moraine. The short shaft is the important part...? Thanks for your help

Yes that is the master cylinder you must use with the '88-'98 booster you already bought, with drum/drum brakes.

The price is exactly the same as in post #1. The upgraded linkage is the only way I make these since the upgrade.
