Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
found my dream 4x4 vehicle! actually has been my dream 4x4 for my whole life, but finally found one in person and its only 1 town away, i know its not a chevy/gmc but its beautiful(to me). could use a 292 in it though.. anyways here it is 1967-8? jeep M715 with the 230 inline 6(jeeps 230 not gm) makes 132.5hp@4000 and 198tq@1600 has T-98 trans np-200 transfer case dana 60 front axle and dana 70 rear axlehas 5.87:1 gear ratio tires are 9.00-16 so 34" stock!! their rated as a 1.25 ton truck. heres some pics

Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
destroyed my rear brakes, as i slammed on the brakes when some lady walked into the road yelling at her kid she was dragging. they make a grinding squealing noise and i see what looks like wire stick out between backing plate and drum im guessing ruined springs for the shoes. so its been parked at my work need to tear it apart tomm find out what i need for parts. luckily no one was hurt and the truck stopped with out blowing a brake line (figured that happen). and my new weedwacker i bought dont work, need to return that grrr. sorry needed to vent.

so pulled my rear brakes apart omg is it scary i need everything, the rear brakes are the 12in dia ones and the drums are worn to 12-7/16!! so far the parts total is around 325$ everything was twisted and bent. also painted the valve covers because i was bored. and picked up some old tonkas to paint and give to my baby brother.

Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
believe load in pic is 4 above bedside as that was the last load got 58 bales that load. normally it was 3 about 47 bales a load so none fell off on the bumps. the bales were roughly 35-45 lbs so given 47bales 1645-2115lbs a load. plus me and my brother 165+180 makes 1990-2460lbs the last load at 58bales makes 2375-2955lbs moved 256bales total so i think the truck proved its worth!

Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
lol u should've seen my brothers face when i took off in 4th gear. the headers are great, i feel that carter carb is too lean which isn't surprising since it came off a jeep 258 and i havent tuned or rebuilt it(got carb from scrap yard). so haven't felt whole effect of headers. im planning on getting a 2bbl carb i got setup with a custom built adapter to my stock intake, see if that helps

Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
thinking about starting the resto on the 1974 c60 me and my dad got, while doing it think im gonna take and see if that np540(assuming it still has stock trans)fits and swap it into my truck it dont got an overdrive as i thought but it does have better gear spilts then this sm465 does. the sm465 will work in the c60 as it has a 2 speed rear end. so will help split the ratio gaps.

Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
OUCH!! THORNS!! i need to weedwack around the c60before i start work did some research on my 74 c60. turns out the truck was not converted to 401v6 as we were told it still the original 351, or replacement 351. it may have 401 heads and intake on though, haven't figured that out(maybe thats what the PO meant?) as the valve covers have GMC stamped in them but its a chevy 60, or is that normal idk lol. has eaton two speed rear end far as i can tell one of the gears being 6.17 hoping thats the low not the high which would make the high 5.87 i believe. rockers are soft and inner fenders but rest pretty solid so far. still have to figure out how im taking care of the rear axle though ugh... also tookpic of my truck today at work idk just wanted too lol.

Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
Both them trucks the same color?
You'll need to put a matching stripe across the Beasts hood |

Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
worked on the bike today, found out its a 77 not a 78, had poured in marvel mystery oil in motor yesterday. (was seized) am happy to say that it is deseized. also deseized the front brake however feel that the front wheel bearing is seized too or going bad. also removed that stupid looking fiberglass front end piece, and rubbed the chrome clean!
i will be going to a junkyard in the next week or two and my dad says he has many 67-72 trucks so hopefully my camera will work(pics for u guys) and i'll have cash for parts!!

Re: 1972 GMC "the beast" c20
wow its been a while been so busy lately, found a motor 4 sale with dual carbs on it calling the owner to see if hell part with just the carbs,
bought a truck this weekend also its a 89 dodge dakota cost me 135$ thats right 135 now that i have another driver im taking the 72 to my dads and im really doing a good start on making this truck into what i want, i'll be spending the winter doing all new brakes, exhaust and repairing the bed and some rust and painting the frame from at least the cab back im thinking flipping trailing arms on top of axle and putting in lift spindles up front if i can swing the dough.

I love the Jeep. Reminds me of my brother's Power Wagon.
