Re: Show your motor..73-87
Like I said wasnt exactly sure..... but thought it was 57 to 72 small blocks were orange, then they went blue for 10 years or so then to black. Rob you might be right they might have went long with the orange but you never know when an engine was painted either.......I thought forsure someone would have corrected me by now and gave the correct years of paint.....like I said I could be wrong but I think it was 55....57-72 sbc

Re: Show your motor..73-87
Engine color comes down to a preference thing. I always associated blue engines with another manufacturer but to do a complete resto my engine would be blue. But it was actually casted in 73 so I am still going original as far as the engine color is concearned. I have no idea why they changed to blue the only thing I can think of is that they got a better deal on paint or something like that. And then they went to black because it hides oil and grease better. To me nothing says chevy engine more than CHEVY ORANGE.

Re: Show your motor..73-87
well back in the 40's and 50's they had blue engines and gray and tan then they went to orange.....I really didnt care for the color of blue they used either, and I hate to say it but the ford racing blue was much better.

Re: Show your motor..73-87
I painted my 5.3 red because the truck is red, but all other SBC and BBC engines I have ever built were painted orange. Same goes for the short period of time when I was delusional and had a couple of Mopars.
Blue just makes me think of a Furd, and that make me want to

Re: Show your motor..73-87
I hope I didnt offend anyone, like I said before I wasnt trying to be a smartazz. And I know the blue was an ugly color of blue, but I never seen any on here. but I like the color matching engines to the color of truck, I think thats cool and sets your truck apart from others.

Re: Show your motor..73-87
My old '82. 4 bolt main, mild cam, bored [not exactly how much], holley carb, aftermarket headers, and the auto tranny had a shift kit. not sure about anything else.
The first few pics are really dusty, it had been sitting a while and i'd only owned it for 30 mins lol.
