i love these old sun tachs also, but after owing 2 vintage sun super tach ll that only worked erratically, i tried all the gismos and tricks to fix them but finally i gave up,
problem may be because my chevelle and truck both have HEI. ended up with a $50 bosch mini tach from advance auto that looks retro like the sun tach and works perfectly. |

I checked the removed batteries and they were still at 1.36 volts. I cleaned up one of the contacts, which had some corrosion on it, and put them back in with some dielectric grease. I'm back in business. This September that tach will have been in use for 53 years! K
