Thank you all for the great comments. The owner is going with a set of 15 inch wheels but I wanted to see what they would look like. I want to put 20 inch wheels on my panel and borrowed them from a buddy to see if they will fit and not rub anywhere. The owner is not sure about side emblems but I am going to leave the front one. custom86, I do not think they make these wheels anymore. I checked there website and they do not list them. |

I have all the metal work done on both the inner wheel wells now. It is the NSRA event this coming weekend so nothing till after that. I will take a bunch of pictures of the AD trucks while I am there and then I will post them general 47-59 section. Everyone have a happy Veterans Day and thank you to all the veterans.

Started on the other side now. Pass fender needs some hammer and dolly work but nothing to bad , has some cracks around the wheel opening. I figured I would strip a bunch of it and pull back apart to epoxy it then onto the body work. I also bought new wheels for mine and put them on last night. I had my little helper with me the whole time.

Not realy metal problems. Things like how to do my steering shaft, how to do my radiatior, transmission floor cover/shifter, engine mounts. You just had some good pictures. I do have some doors for my 66 that are bowed in in the middle from where a guy took a belt sanded to remove a door logo. I've tried to get the bow out but nothing. Any ideas? I'm thinking new door skins but I don't really want to do that yet.

Loving the work as always. That burb would look better in my driveway!! Daverod, try a stud gun. You can buy them at harldyfreight. you just tack a stud to the dent and pull with a slide hammer I think they call it. Post some pics on your thread. But what ever shannon suggests, I would do.

daverod, Does the door have a opening in the back so you could hammer and dolly it out? If not you could make a opening, as long as it gets covered by the door panel. Then you could hammer and dolly the metal and maybe be able to use a shrinking disc by working the metal from both sides. I had to do it on a bed I built, it worked like a charm.

I watch some stuff on youtube about disks. I'll try that. I tried using a torch and heating it uo then cooloin it off fast but it did'nt seeem to do anything? I can get to the inside it's kinda tight. I'm not sure if the meal needs to be shrunk or expanded. All I know is it warped in. I can push it out but it does'nt stay out.

daverod, I try the torch thing with no luck. The shrinking disc is slow but very controlable. Best $200 I spent (2 shrinking dics, video and craftsman 7" grinder). But I am a tool junkie!

Started the do some metal work tonight. Was working on the hood corner and closed the hood and now I can't open it! Some how it got stuck, I worked it for a while and still could not open it. It irritated me so I will save that for another day. I need to redo the corner because something twisted it up and it does not fit at all. so I decided to start on the hammer and dolly work on the fenders. I think both fenders were hit by everything known to man. I have the front of the drivers fender fairly good. After the hammer and dolly I used the shrinking disc and that really smooths out the high spots. I like to get the metal as straight as possible then there is not so much filler. The last picture looks rough but is the finish from hammering and dollying, then running the shrinking disc over it. I should have ran the DA over it for the picture.

Finally got the hood open so I could fix the corner of the hood and fill the sides where the emblems were to go. I ground out the bent up pieces the emblems go onto and cut new pieces to weld in. I got the one side done and will do the other side tomorrow.

Well back from vacation now. The next thing on the list of things to do is make the front fender braces. The truck did not come with any so I got out the 1x1 .125 wall tubing and bent it in my roll cage bender. I will mount it to the radiator mount and to the fender. Then I am making custom headlight buckets and welding the headlight rims to the fenders and the headlight adjustment will be in the fender well. I am using the headlights that the bulb can be removed from the back so once they are adjusted they should not need to be adjusted again. Also made the running board brackets too.

oldman3, yes vacation was great. We went to myrtle beach and the week blew by. The fender brace should work out good and should be able to keep it close to the fender. I figured it would just be easier to make them than find used ones. Plus I can have then now than waiting for them.

Well I did some work on my buddies 1948 chevy cab this weekend. The drip edges were rotted off and the sheetmetal under it was hole ridden and the beltline seam was to also. So I redid the door opening and tightened up the door gap and redid half of the beltline. I still have to do the other half. So out came the brake, strecher/shrinker and the beadroller. It worked out pretty well.
