Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
Just remember as it's mentioned in that thread...it's better to have too many ground straps than have too few....

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
well I had no ground strap on the cab to frame. I went ahead and added one and that didnt fix the gas guage. I traced out the black ground on the back of the cluster and it looks like it goes in my main wiring harness and I am not sure where it goes from there. Is that how it should be? my wiring is pretty cut up and rigged. I see a painless in my near future (-:

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
may be a stupid question but is there a ground strap of some sort on the gas tank itself? I am going to pull my seat out soon and ground the brown wire and see what my gauge does.
I also just landed some 305/35/20 rear tires for 65 bucks. They are used but good enough for now. I hope that isnt to wide for a 20x10 wheel.

Spend the $750 on your truck.
Your making good progress now. Don't get distracted. (I'm one to talk,...) Ha.

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
Here are some pics of my new toys for the truck.. I am more excited about the rear tires than anything.. They are Pirelli Pzero 305-35-20 and the one picture is of my truck in my new 3 car garage.. Its very tight.. I have just a couple of inches so I am little bummed. I was hoping I would have some more room in the garage than i do but its still better than what I had.

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
haha dont worry.. My wife would leave me if I brought that home.. I have to many toys as it is.. I did stop and look though.. I hope to have one of those some day but for now I am trying to focus on the truck.. I am just pumped I can drive the thing now.. I forgot how much I love cruising in these trucks. Brings me back to my high school days driving my old 1968 I had.. I got the bug after driving it all week.

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
Well I got my gas gauge working today. It was a bad sending unit. I also got my stereo to power on but I have a bad connection with the speakers. Something in the rear harness if I jiggle it I get some sound..
This truck is being stubborn.. I will get it though.

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
Well I think I might keep my crossmember now. I got such a great deal on it I figure I will kick myself if I sell it. I also stopped by 69_cstv's house tonight and he thinks he can help me modify it to work with my one piece driveshaft. My lighst worked great so I am happy with that.. I guess now i can move onto my stereo and horn to fix (-;

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
Okay I need some help here. I have been toying with the idea of doing a faux-Tina paint job on the truck. My whole goal is to learn on this truck and not get tons of money wrapped up in it. I also want to use this more like a shop/ work truck. I feel if I spend all the hours I will need to paint this right I will end up with a ton of money in it and also I won't want to haul anything in it. I plan to do a full dropmember ls1 type truck once my kids get older but this is going to be more of my fun truck. So any what do you guys think? I am thinking red with black showing through. Tell me what you guy think I should do. I need some outside help.

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
I broke down this weekend and tested the faux-tina paint on my hood. I must say it looks pretty cool. I plan to do the rest of the truck this month. I am fixing as much body work as I have time and money for but I will have to go back and address some metal issues after my first round of paint. I do plan to hold out on posting pictures and hopefully have it done by the time of the midwest truck nationals in Sept. I will then add the pictures to my build thread. Its going to drastically change the look of this truck. I am super excited about it. I know some of you are going to not like it but this truck needs to be cheap and a fun driver and I think a faux-tina paint job suits it fine. Plus when I get a scratch it will add to it or I wll be able to touch it up easy. hopefully I will be able to head to the truck nationals with a cool looking newly painted truck. Its going to be alot of work to get it done by then but we will see. Wish me luck

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed
I like the idea...not that it matters The main thing is if you like it Where did you get your research on the faux-tina? I saw a video from a trucks show where they did it on a fender and it was a pretty simple (although time consuming) process that they detailed very well. I'm considering it for my Shoestring budget build....it will either be a faux-tina or a satin black....

I am using rustoleum in a can. I am puting a base coat color on in two coats. Then two coats of the main color. I used brush and a mini roller for my hood. Then I wetsanded the living crap out of it. I still need to wetsand more. I used a satin for the 1st coat and a gloss for the top. When you wetsand it takes any shine out of it. I plan to get it fairly smooth once i get the rest of the paint on it with wet sanding. I didnt go really deap with the wetsanding until I get the whole truck painted. I want to be sanding the hood and fender at the same time so it looks more like a sun bake. Its going to be a ton of sanding but in the end I hope it looks good. It will be alot different than the project 6.. I dont want to mimic rust etc.. I just want it to look weathered showing a black primer under.. I think the project 6 is to busy atleast for me.

Okay now... I've 'heard' that you did some faux-tina work, but I don't see proof.

Your going to have to wait until the Midwest Nationals.. My plan is to have it finished by then. I am not 100% sure I will be able to do it but I am going to try my hardest.
