Re: Tunnel Ram
I guess for him thats the look and vision he has.....
For me I went to a crossram because where I am you can't run with out a hood and depending what sticks out of a hood thats a no no as well....makes it worse for me is I know half of the guy's with the ticket books.... |

Re: Tunnel Ram
Boy I tell you........I think the spacers just might be the deciding factory. They are pretty tall. they actually look bigger than the usual 1" height. You blow those off and it just might/should work given the small block. I couldn't understand a thing they were saying though. lol Tell you what and this is JUST me but you remove the chrome cowl, chrome bed step and take 2" off the stance and that would be a bad little truck.
I have to tell you.....I kinda dig the tunnel ram under the hood concept. Part of that is because a small block in these trucks look like a 4 cyl sometimes. Before the tunnel ram, I would always just barely open my hood when at the shows. I used to love to make people really strain to see what the heck is under there. Looks kind of stealthy plus it hides the little things you still need to work on. I'd do the same with this. Not open the hood all the way but just a crack to expose the ram. It would really get people talking. As for the hood off.....not a fan. They just don't look right because of how the core support is exposed and it's even worse on the 60-66s. I think it will be kinda cool to have that ram hidden under there. BTW.....Edelbrock Pro flow cleaners will buy you even more room as meantioned. |

Re: Tunnel Ram
Well great minds think a like.....i couldn't understand a word of it either....but the whole time I was thinking...... " Dude drop the back 3" and the front another 1"......." lose that chrome cowl stuff and call me with how much ya want for that truck"
Ricky Bobby.... You ever run your truck at the track before ?... |

C10............Just got back. The carbs look absolutely flawless and clean as new. I am very pleased with the purchase. I will get some pics up of them tomorrow. Also, I will be using my original accelerator rod to hook everything up. Also got my 6" wide front and 12" wide rear Cragar S/S rims ordered today. Gonna put an S10 rear end in so the 29x15.5x15 Mickey Thompson rear tires will fit. Last edited by CVA59; 01-18-2011 at 10:44 PM. |

Re: Tunnel Ram
I'm looking forward to seeing this all put together. Have you decided how to solve the clearance issue yet? What about just slotting the motor and trans mount holes about a 1/2". Seems that would be relatively easy to do, and shouldn't require lengthening the driveshaft. Then you'd have clearance without having to trim the firewall at all.

Re: Tunnel Ram
Hey Mark. Yeah, i have pretty much decided to notch the firewall. I need at least 1" of clearance to make it work. It won't be bad. I will mitre in a rolled piece piece of gauge metal to make it look good. I can't wait to seed it together also, LOL. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Re: Tunnel Ram
Here is mine with the 15.5's before I jumped to the 18.5's. On 12" wheels that's perfect.
Very happy for you with the purchase. Now you can say the tunnel ram value was alright and the carb purchase was super. They looked nice in the pics so it's cool that you can cross the carbs off the list and move forward. That smaller venturi will help you on the street too. I do think you nailed it with the not sticking far enough out comment. I can't believe when guys cut there hood so the air cleaner lid only sticks out. It looks so retarded. |

Install some stock C-10 axles perches and a Super Track Bar on the 9" Ford and you should have a fairly easy installation, certainly no more difficult than the S-10. Last edited by lakeroadster; 01-19-2011 at 10:41 AM. |

Re: Tunnel Ram
Not with his setup. He also has a 3 speed manual trans so I highly doubt he will be hurting parts. CVA, what is wrong with the rear end you have now?

Lake........... You do make a valid point. My engine setup and all may be a little misleading to some here. My engine is basically stock. I will have the TR, Thumpr Cam, Headers and 3-speed tranny. Additionally and most importantly, my driving style with this truck is such that i doubt very seriously that i will ever have my foot "off into it" much less burning off the rear tires. I pretty much outgrew that stuff years ago and i have come to realize that money and rear tires are not free nor do they grow on trees. So, having said all that there will not be much if any crazy stunts pulled with this truck. I am building it strictly for cruising around in and to enjoy. Re: Tunnel Ram
Real..
Love the cross ram..... CVA So your just going to swap the read ends ( to the s-10 ) And then your going to run 15.5's with out having to cut anything else but the wheel tubs ? I never really thought about doing that way my rears are 21.5" and I still have a bit more space. But when you figure all that combo out excatly can you let me know?.. I have a project truck just sitting there and a extra S 10 rear end and and...crap now I really want to know all the offsets and stuff. Your math my parts whamo could bang that baby out quick.... Ricky Bobby.. Like the way you split and widened your wheels, I think thats what I would on my next project. Combine that with the s10 rear end cut a pair of tubs and your rolling...good work guy's your giving me ideas to think of while my other 2 trucks are in getting painted right now. |

Re: Tunnel Ram
Correct! they have the blanks from 6"-14" and you just tell them the offset. Awesome weld job and very true! Most people crap when they find out my rear end isn't narrowed. I'm running about 6.25 to the outside and 8.75 to the inside since a 14" wheel is really 15" lip to lip. It's also a little easier on your axle bearings to have that load about even as apposed to a huge offset. I prefer not to argue with anyone.....she's beochen!!! lol

Re: Tunnel Ram
Here is what mine looks like right now...tree branches and all...In my defense I had to park it under my tree today to get one of the other trucks so it could go to the paint shop. This truck is going into the shop for paint I hope in a week or so and I am going to start drilling out all of those rivets so I can get the box off and apart for a serious change of color.
Anyhowwwww I really like the s10 rear end idea with the factory wheel concept for me, and I think the next time I go to a replace the wooden floor I am going to pull the wood out and convert the floor over to a steel one. I have seen a 65 with a floor out of a newer style truck in it and I really liked it . I wonder if there is a thread showing the best ideas for that....hhhmmmm |

Oh thats perfect....I really liked that box on the 4X4 with a 72 steel floor in it ..and it looks really easy to do ... Is it just me or is this place really expensive?.....lol...I see all these great ideas, get all these great ideas, and all this information and now I want to build something else. |
