Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I was wondering when you would start posting some pics. I really miss this truck, wish I would never have sold it . However, it definately seems to be in good hands. If you want to check out the link below, it's from when I posted it on here before. If you go to post #16 OEM4ME has some questions for you.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Not really, this is the way Chevy V8's in this era came from the factory. A lot can be learned from an original low mileage vehicles if you are into accurate restorations. A few years ago, many on this site did not even know 327's and 292's were green, 283's were gray and 230-250's were blue in trucks up to 1966.

Anyway, glad these details get noticed and brought to light by somebody. Eventually we may compile enough info to actually aid in an accurate restoration effort. Keep it up, eh? |

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Well....I've posted a few pic's of my '66 4000 GMC on a couple other threads..
But it's in pristine..(at least original) condition. As stated earlier...some bigger trucks out on the farm stayed under cover most of the year. Mine was spec'd by a Berry Farmer in Corbett, Oregon....at the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge...it was in the barn except for about six weeks a year, at which time it made multiple "sorties" to the "Smuckers" or "Scenic Fruit" warehouses...here in Orient..then back to the barn for an oil change and a shot of grease. The "Big Truck" odometers are six digit spools showing the hundred thousand column. She says 097,??? miles.. Everything works, right down to the low air buzzer. Note the fawn colored firewall....and the silver/gray interior. The first 4 pic's were before bringing it home.

Okay...one of you OE specialists.. I haven't spent that much time around '60-'66 Chev's...I'm more checked out on the GMC's. So I have a couple silly questions...maybe one of yous can clarify things fer an old guy... First..Was the white lower panel under the dash bezel correct...? And were the hood hinges & springs galvanized/silver..? And...my '63 has the manual throttle cable, and it is located directly on the right of the column, next to and level with the ignition key...spaced like the rest of the knobs. Is mine in the wrong spot...?

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
#1 No it is not correct.
#2 No they were semi-gloss or underhood black. #3 NO the throttle is in the wrong spot on his dash, should be mounted in the panel like yours. However, having said the above, I'd be damn proud to call that truck MINE.

The instrument panel, the panel under it, and the steering wheel are all off-white on "custom comfort" interiors in '62. no input from me on the 4X4 choke/throttle knob locations. |

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I have to agree wit the position of the throttle cable. Iv enever seen them mounted under the dash. Normally to the left of the ignition. The mount its on looks similiar to the 4 way hazards mount, but not quite. Ive only seen the cable pull vents mounted under the dash. But its a great looking truck either way. Thanks for shareing the pics.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Thanks jaunz1947 for posting the great photos of the '62. It's always refreshing and inspiring to see one brought back to factory condition. Notice the period '62 sales brochure on dash for reference, no wonder it looks so correct. How many are restored with their period barden step bumpers painted correct silver-gray? THe owner resisted the temptation of overdoing the restoration with chrome that the vehicle originally never came with.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Heres a few pictures from my 1962 C10 Shortbed with 14,000 miles. You can see the hood hinges were silver cadmium plated like the bolts under the hood. The hood springs were dark grey/black phosphate. The dash knobs on his truck I would say are all wrong in that they are actually for a Custom cab truck. "T" Throttles are on the RH side of the column. It does also show this as only 60-62 and a picture in the Chevrolet parts books.I think they look great but feel they originally were all black. Many of the "Dealer installed radios" came in kits and all seem to have the deluxe knobs, it may be such that he was just trying to be consistent/matching all the way across the dash ? Either way seeing this truck done right is nice to see. Not many people go to the lengths he did to make them look like they should.
