Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
Im new to the site but I have a viair 380 to a 5 gallon tank and the fill up is about 5 minutes or so. Id suggest running 2 to a 8 gallon tank that way its less fill up time plus you get more volume of air. I can only go up full tilt and down and about 1/2 way back up on a full tank in mine. I dont put more than 160psi in my tank at a time.

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
I got my tank from www.airbagit.com which is chassis tech parts. I got my tank from them for a good price and its very well built. I love it. They sell compressors and all that, also call your local home depot or lowes cant remember which but they do carry viair compressors like mine online, might have some in stores as well. If i remember the pics i was looking at was yours or not it looked to be a 5-8 gallon tank.

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
yeah, put the vortec heads on the older engine. You'll have to get a intake thats for the vortec heads that you can put a carburator or whatever you use on.

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
I wouldn't use the newer vortec engine, theres so much wiring and stuff. plus it cost more to work on, and get parts for.

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
So i tried to start the engine yest. And it does not want to saty running on its own. It also sounds very rough so something has def. Happened with it. It will turn over and sound like its running if i give it gas but will not stay running and it kinda thumps. I'm going to try and get it figured out while its still in the donor. If I fail at getting it to run then I'm not sure where I'm going then...maybe just try and pick up a low mileage 350 to throw in here...i was hoping to get lucky and have everything I need for free ...but im unsure about it now...will let you know after I mess around with it this weekend....I'm crossing my fingers.!

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
Alright...today I made some good progress...got the engine and tranny out of my donor. It's a 5.3 vortec with 4l60e. Came out pretty smoothly. I did it the easy way....u can see in the pics lol. I have some questions and would love some suggestions...I think the easiest thing to do now would be is to just buy a wire harness for it. Anyone know the best deal on this and where to get it. Also the motor mounts....where can I find these for this type of a swap? And does the transmission fit alright? Or can some help me with what all is needed in doind this swap. I will also need a new intake.. the one that was on was ruined by the tornado....the firewall pushed down on it and the top had two pretty good cracks in it. Thanks for the input for those who do in advance and here are some pics!!

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
So I think I'm going to order some dirty dingo slider mounts and a set of dual compressors viair 380s . Prob gonna order these up tonight I'm gonna wait on the PSI harness...see what I can do with the old one first? One question...does this transmission line up with the mount under the truck or how does this work? Thanks

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
Last night i ordered some goods. Iv got the ls motor swap mounts, e3 plugs, Msd spark plugs are all on the way from jegs. I also ordered a pair of viair 380 air compressors. I just called on an intake manifold from a salvage so I'm gonna go pick that up this afternoon. My only big hurdle is the harness....does anyone know if its possible to reuse the old harness out of the 2000 Chevy?

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
Check out this link. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conver...ng-basics.html
I used a 5.3 and 4l60e in my ccsb project, all i had to hook up was three wires using the factory under hood fuse block. 12+ fuelpump and ignition feed.

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
So you took all the wires from the donor and all you had to change were three wires? Or hook power into 3 and it worked?

Re: My 85 chevy c10 build
Quote:
The 3 wires left, one of the wires will be hooked to the ignition feed wire from the truck. One of the wires will feed the fuel pump. The last wire will need 12+ constant for the ecm memory. Go here he has all the info you will need. WWW.LT1SWAP.COM
