Re: factory 65 chevy assembly picture

Nice variety of 66's. Note black painted inside fenderwells used on some mid west and east coast assembly plants. Also note all GMC's had black painted center section of hood for the illusion of one large hood scoop between turn signals.

OK, another history lesson from factorystock, wood planks and skid strips were always painted Jet Black from the factory.

Re: factory 65 chevy assembly picture

The dealers & mechanics made money selling/installing the rear bumpers (and other accessories), also a new truck sales deal could be sealed by "throwing in" the rear bumper.

You never cease to amaze me, Factorystock! Thank you so much for that. I appreciate all of the work that alot of you do on your wood beds, but this picture is the answer to my prayers. As mine will be a daily driver, I wanted something in the bed that would hold up to hauling and I had no idea they were originally painted black. I'm more than a little excited at this information!

Re: factory 65 chevy assembly picture

A GMC B model. Previous '63 GMC assembly line photo, post #249, note the black out behind grill, similar to the way Chevy's are done, this detail disappeared on '64-'66 GMC's, IMO, not a good move.

Re: factory 65 chevy assembly picture

It's been suggested this is a Canadian line. Interesting to note the variations from standard on this one truck. Grill and bumper paint, and two different tires.

Isnt this a chassis cab truck ? Im guessing its a special order paint. Mirrors extended pretty far out suggests something big for a bed on this one. Not sure but that line looks odd, looks like a Panel truck behind it , then maybe a 4x4 then a BIG truck coming around the corner. Just a thought but having recently purchased a GMC Civil Defense truck , the paint code under the hood is in chalk for blue but the main body has white in areas only done before assembly. It also has blue bumpers. Not sure if CD trucks were factory painted this way but it appears to be.

Too bad there aren't more assembly pictures of the Carryalls. I have this one in my collection though. Heck, it could even be mine. My truck was number 7588.
