Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
Hazel's engine is a drooler isn't it? n2billet did a great job in the engine bay! I had a 68 Camaro in the early 90's. I had dreams of doin a restomod (?) look to that engine. Never got around to it. n2billet inspired me to do it on this one.
We'll line 'em up if I can chuck a big block in it! I wanna see how squirrley a SWB big block C10 can get!

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
Nothing new yet. I've been doing a lot of planning and looking around for cool pieces to add to the wish list. I've got some great ideas for Chapter 2 of this build. I had to take it home because they are adding a car wash and detail bays to my dealership so parking is at a premium. For the moment its chillin' in the driveway.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
Man, it been over a month since I last posted! I gotta get moving! Well I had some extra time tonight. I had to wait for the alignment rack so I figured I'd cut out my windshield.
It had a big gap at the top just over your left eye (about 2" gap) and I bought a seal sometime ago. Its getting cold outside so I haven't driven the truck much so I figured this would be a good time to see what kind of rust damage was underneath. Boy was I suprised! What luck, surface rust!! Nothing else. I expected having to cut out cancer and put new metal in. I'm gonna clean up the area, repaint and do my drip rail seam sealer and reinstall the windshield all at once.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
So tonight I scrubbed, scrapped and buffed the windshield. Although I wasn't able to get all the wiper marks out, it did come pretty clean. I started with a polishing compound because I didn't want to start out too agressive. I had the buffer set at 1000 RPM. I tried the next step up and then Kevin, our lead detailer, gave me something called "Diamond cut" (?) and suggested I step up to 1400 RPM. In the end I think it worked out pretty good seeing as how I wasn't expecting much.
I did check and I can get a PPG glass for $100.00. I know it seems funny to put a bunch of labor into an old windshield when a new one is so cheap but I just wanted to say I tried it. As the truck gets nicer I'll install a new one. I should have taken a photo of the finished product but I left without doing it! I'm gonna be back at it tomorrow so I'll post one then.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
So I got back to it today. I cleaned the windshield channel the best I could and used some rust converter (for the surface stuff) on the channel and forward part of the dash. Come Monday I'll paint the channel and the top of the dash, let that dry and reinstall the glass with a new seal.
I also applied the seam sealer to the gutter channel. Man o' man do I hope that stuff levels out better than it did! I saw a couple of places that looked ok but I'm not sure how its gonna turn out.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
Yeah, I have never done this before nor have I seen it done. The tip was an epoxy mixing tip and I wasn't sure if the tip should be modified. If I had it to do over again I'd trim the tip to allow for one big fat self-leving bead. I probably woulda masked the roof to aloow for a nice clean line. Oh, well. Lets see how it works out.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
Label says "Working time 10 minutes" and "Paintable in 20-40 minutes", that implies it is finished leveling in 15 minutes.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
Just found this:
The only thing I didnt do was zig zag when applying. Oh well. You can't really see it unless your tall. I'll figure out to fix it.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
It never self leveled. Funny, you'd think that something that said "Self-Level" would self level but I guess I was askin too much. It seems like it is sandable so I'll hit it before I spray it. I wish I had found that video before I laid the stuff down. The zig zag action is the trick.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
True. It looks like you're in a climate controlled shop, so temp. shouldn't have had a negative effect.
Maybe you can sand it down and fill in the low spots by reapplying. Then sand and paint over to finish it off. Like you said, not noticeable, but you do want a good seal.

Re: Project Cheap Thrills!
Oh, its sealed alright. It just needs to be sanded down. Hopefully, it'll sand well.
