I'm not saying they aren't out there, just look everywhere on your new one. Under the cowling, under the dash, the inside front roof panel, around the windshield (front and back), around the heater/a/c box, (hopefully, you can find one thats been stripped bare because if it's assembled you won't know. Of course you know the main areas to look for, the front rear supports, corners, kick panels, rockers. Good luck on your search. If you find two let me know, I'm looking for another one. |

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
^^ Back in the 80's, there was a guy running around the Dallas/Garland area w/a 67-72 that grafted the RS grille assembly to the front of his truck. It did look pretty cool. His maintained the truck features/body-lines on the fenders vs that illustration where it appears the design incorporates the Camaros features on the fenders.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
Im still out on the road and just reading everyone elses builds. I have definately decided I am going to do the body drop. I dont think I am going to fork out the money for the PB bolt on kit though. I will work on it after the bed is done and I get the cab back off the chassis. Once the body drop is done, I am thinking about painting the chassis the same color as the truck is going to be.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
I had a little set back today. I grabbed my tailgate to see how it was going to fit and how I was going to weld it up and realized that when I welded in the roll pan, the bed sides were not straight up and down which resulted the gaps at the top of the tailgate. So now I am in the process of cutting my welds off the rollpan and getting the bed sides centered.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
I got a little progress done today. I had to cut the rollpan on both sides before I could straighten the bedsides. I got them straight, the roll pan rewelded, made up a filler piece for the tailgate handle and got it welded in. I also got the tailgate set in place and it is tacked in place before I ran out of wire.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
Welding the tailgate on huh? Sucks you had to cut the roll pan loose. The rear will be smooth when you get it done. That C/28 is an interesting design. I have seen a few conceptual drawings like that never seen one completed yet.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
I thought it was a cool concept because when I was growing up, I bet my dad restored a dozen of the first gen camaros. The first time I saw that picture I thought it was an el camino.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
I need a bigger air compressor. The one I have wont run the air file. I got one side of the tailgate roughed in by hand so it took a while. Its hard to get pictures because the truck is backed in.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
I sure love my dad, he found me a pair of bucket seats on craigslist for $75 and then went a picked them up for me because I am out of town. They came out of a 67 one ton.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
Im still needing some inner fender wells for the bed before I can really start on the floor. I want an original style bottom for the floor. I think I may be able to kill two birds with one stone. I found an old long bed on craigslist that has a good floor and inner fenders. If I can get that, I can cut the floor as I need to fit my bed. I am going to try and check it out later this week. I want to cap the inner bed with some flat sheetmetal.
I decided that I am going to make do with the cab I have. It does need one cab corner, the inner cowl has a big dent that is preventing the outer cowl from bolting up. There is also a descent size dent in the roof that needs to be pulled out. I had a little time the other day and started shaving the drip rail on the cab and welding the body seam in the roof. I am about to the point with the bed that I need to put it on a stand to finish up the lower part. |

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
I dont have much left to do on the tailgate.
I found a long bed to rob the floor and ender wells out of. I traded it for an old clip I had. I wont be using the bedsides if anyone local wants them. |

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
I got the new bed broken down today. The floor is in really good shape and the fender wells are descent shape. Next thing will be getting the floor cut up. I just need to cut the front and back edges off and then cut the center out for the bridge.

Re: 68 build...south of DFW
looks good man. Im happy with my center mount bridge too...hopefully it rides nice, Im adding some Varishocks front and rear to help controll the rebound and compresson. They KYB's are awesome too if you stick with them.
