Re: Project Little Black Truck
Yup! Might as well lop the coils while you're at it!

Locate an area of weeds and drop LBT in it.

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Oh, coil loppin' is in the plan, just 1-ton coils! Definitely gonna lose some leaves, this thing rides hard as hell in the back! I'll use those for body slappers. I'd love to do a trailing arm conversion, but not enough time for that. Gotta get rid of the little blue car, then maybe I can get on this. Got some other schemes going for this one as well, we'll see.

Dude, sweet!
How soon are you going to tear into the front of LBT? I will have a surplus set of front 3/4T BB springs eventually. |

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Thanks! 2001 CR125R, one owner bike, and babied. It likes to reach for the sky in 1st and 2nd. It'll do!
Actually, it's about to become a necessity. Alignment has gone wonky, dead shock, SHOT balljoints, etc. Wheels are getting polished along with CRLS's (Vic's truck) in Columbia over the 4th. Hoping to get rid of the Blue car soon and get LBT in. Flip kit, losing some leaves, Spindles, and cut coils. The shock bill's gonna be a bite in the butt. I may fab up some front extenders and use standard shocks, if I can find a good set of plans. I usually use Doetsch Tech, but I don't wanna cough up the chinga. Have a set of 1-ton coils in stock, thinkig 1&1/2 coils to compensate for sag. Came out of a BB dually, along with the BIG HONKIN' swaybar. I may do the shackle lift trick and build my own shackle extenders, I dunno. I also have a good size rear bar in stock, gotta fab up some mounts for that. It needs a rearend, as well. I think the pinion bearing is taking a dump. Shame, it's nice and quiet. Hoping to have all this done before the Nats. Pray for me.

Re: Project Little Black Truck
I wouldn't get too excited pulling leaves and all. My orange "74 was lowered 6/8, and that is about as low as I would want to go. 3" spindles and 1 coil in the front, flip kit and shackles in the rear. It rode on factory HD leaves. I have the front upper shock mounts Scot made for it, I will get a pic. Simple and effective.
I don't think I would want to go too much lower than 6/8 on a regularly driven vehicle, especially as I remember the roads in KC. I think I would do the flip first, see where that puts the rear, do shackles if needed, then set the front. Cut a little less than 1 round off of the coils to start, and trim as needed from there. It is easier to take a little more off than put any back on. |

Re: Project Little Black Truck
I'm hip, I was meaning the shackle bit in lieu of a flip. Sometimes a flip seems too low. I gotta pull a leaf or two, this thing rides like a lumber wagon in the back, it's rough! I'd love to fab a trailing arm deal, but no time for that.

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Ha, sadly it seems to feel like the fast days are ending. I can't explain it. We'll still have some fun on it. He's pretty stoked, His little brother is stoked to be getting the XR80. The KTM 50 is going to the 5 year old next door, we gotta fab up some training wheels.
Hopefully LBT will be in soon, it's getting time to do some thing. Got some big welding done on the little car last night, progress! Also tore the Blaster down to do a top end on it, it sucked a head gasket and scorched the piston.

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Yeah, he is.... But I'm selling it, I think. When we go, I'm chasing 3 kids and doing a lot of tip ups, and a bike with a full race powerband and no kickstand and crazy seat height ain't cuttin it. Thinking xr250/400. Thanks!

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Awe man! You might try taking a little preload outta that shock and you can also slide the fork tubes up in the triple clamps just a tad. Maybe a +1 chainwheel out back might be just the ticket too! The XR250 is a ton of fun and about as reliable as an anvil but the Kid will always talk about his old CR if you sell it.

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Well it's not "his" per se, more Dad's that he can ride whenever he wants. I felt like a monkey effin' a football this weekend doing the dadly duties on it. Plus, I found out on the SX track this weekend I'm not gonna charge anything like this thing wants me to. Flyin' Ryan has ridden it (this is a man with a gsxr750 motor in a banshee frame!) and he concurs. Xr type deal'd be a much better fit. Right tool for the job kinda thing. I dunno, I got other fish to fry at the moment.

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Because.... I actually did something to my truck, sorta. I got the wheels polished over the 4th. They still have the last compound on them to protect them, so I have to detail paint and powerball 'em, but they look better than they did! See here-
Hopefully I can get off my dead keister and get this little car gone before the 1st Aug, then git ta gettin'!

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Ahh I hear what you're saying! I couldn't stand to ride no tiddler neither. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuu(wick clutch)WHAAAAAAAA!!!! We got out for a ride over the fourth and the Boy knocked his pipe outta the jug going across the river. Swallowed a slug of water too. That was a fun trail fix! Finally got the brother in law out on the 450F and he looped it out on a hill climb. Only thing broken was his finger!
Wheels are lookin snazzy!!! How many hours into them?

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Someday I'll have to tell the tale of the younger boy sinking his KTM in a pond. A dear friend always says, "If nothin happens, you got no story to tell!"
I have no idea on time. I paid a guy that looks like Uncle Sy $100 to do it, it's not a show job at all, but hey, it's a LOT better than it was. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project Little Black Truck
BBT getting all the love!?
Forgot to tell you, second ride out this season brother in law busted his leg and messed up a bunch of ligaments on that 450F. Not a pretty deal.

Re: Project Little Black Truck
Awww maaaan. That sucks.
Only thing happenin here is work. Been scratchin the y jeebers out of LBT hauling brush and trees and bikes and everthang else. Oh, we stole the stereo out of it to put back into blue when I sold it. Been really feeling like a quitter, but the Little blue car is done, so the shop'll be opening up again, and hopefully I'll get paid. Money has been a big concern around here as of late, so I haven't been spending any except to get the BBT tagged (oof!). I almost got laid off, then Momma got furloughed, then we're gonna get a union at work, so guess what's gonna happen. (oh boy. my heart soars like a hawk.) then in January the Gov't's gonna spaz again, so Momma's gonna be out. Again. This year's been a picnic. I'm wanting to drop BBT and put a good stereo in it, and then work on LBT, but it's gonna have to wait. I don't know why i'm stressing, none of it's a necessary thing. I'm literally considering a self imposed moratorium on car stuff till april/may '14 or so. Just work on the shop and lay low. I have a blast cab to assemble, more air plumbing in the shop, etc. Plus, the pic mess on here has jammed me up for posting. I actually have a bunch. Sorry for the rant, but it's been bugging me for a while. I'm still here, just kinda revving in neutral. Thanks for checkin' in on me.

This is a cool ole square body. I love these trucks. They are the best driving of the c-10s in my opinion.

Thanks! I need to slap a radio in it and limber it up. It's been hanging out beside the house and hauling mowers and brush. BBT is too nicey nicey for that!
